“Little Noisy But Food Worh It”
Reviewed May 9, 2010

The food was moderately priced, very fresh and the exactly what I expected after having looked over their website. The wine list was very extensive as well. It was a very busy Friday evening but the staff was prepared, very attentive and on top of things for our party of 6. The valet parking was handy because street parking would have been a challenge. It appeared to be a local hot spot and rightly so. It was a little loud in the inside dining area because there is really no kind of separation, but not uncomfortably so. I would definitely return and maybe try the outside dining area.

“Great food, bad server.”
Reviewed February 14, 2010

Great food and atmosphere! Unfortunately, bad service with Dave, our waiter. Watch out for him. When a problem arose with my order he was not concerned, offered no resolution and no apology. Love this restaurant and always recommend to friends. Unfortunately for us, his service made for an unpleasant experience. He soured what is usually a great experience at Red Drum.

“Amazing food and atmosphere”
Reviewed February 8, 2010

Red Drum is an incredible experience from start to finish and is not to be missed if you are in the area. The atmosphere is the first thing you notice, beautifully decorated with wood burning fireplaces inside and out. The night we joined them for dinner it was cold and rainy and standing in front of a roaring fireplace while waiting for your table was tough to beat. The staff was very attentive and friendly and I was amazed at how quickly we were served given how packed the dining room was. There is also a nice outdoor seating area but it was closed due to the rain.

The food is probably the most unique I have had in a long time in the Charleston area. It is reminicent of the Tex-Mex style you find in the Southwest and everything was made of such fresh ingredients and bold flavors it was amazing! The appetizers are more seafood focused than the entrees so between the two you have a nice spectrum of choices. Menu items are not offered anywhere else in the area and are prepared and presented perfectly. Although the price point is on the higher end, I feel it is reasonable for the quality and flavor and I found the portion sizes to be generous for this level of dining. There is also a 'late night' menu for people who come later but still want to have a nice late-night snack. Definitely make reservations as this place is popular!

“Top notch Sunday Brunch, as good as it gets.”
Reviewed January 31, 2010

Recommended by a foodie and was really true to the word on this Sunday. I had the Steak & Eggs which could not be improved upon. The Flank Steak was cooked over a wood grill and expertly charred/marked perfectly juicy and flavorful. The eggs- scrambled w/cheese were fluffy and moist, the hash browns crisp and homemade, not those pucks that Sysco sells to most restaurants. They have a homemade hot sauce that is outstanding on its own! My girlfriend had the HUEVOS RANCHEROS that were also spot on for Texans who know Tex-Mex done right. Fresh salsa, perfectly done eggs, what more can you ask for? As easy as it sounds, I have not had two breakfasts so good since Balthazar in NYC. The Hot Buttered Rumcake w/Vanilla ice cream is decadently rich and flavorful. NO FRILLS, just food done right at a very fair price. Outstanding service with a smile from greeting to the check. I'll be back

“GREAT CHEF/GREAT FOOD”
Reviewed January 20, 2010

We have been BIG fans of red Drum since they opened, have eaten every dish every season, and have never been disappointed. Ben Berryhill is a rock star chef. I could live on the skillet cheese grits and I know people who order the steak frites time after time. Ben has a great way with seafood, game, you name it. Charlie the manager is wonderful and the bartenders are fun too. gastropub-style food. DEFEINITELY need a reservation on the weekend.
