“Delicious food and lovely staff”
Reviewed October 27, 2009

My sister was married last weekend and encouraged her out of town guests to stay at this hotel. The neighborhood was quiet and perfectly located near the ceremony location. We had her bridal brunch there and the night before her wedding, my sister and I stayed in Room 6 on the third floor.

I found the staff to be polite and extremely accommodating (we had many wedding related snafus - lockouts, noisy guests, etc - and the staff never wavered in how well they treated us). The room was spacious for a bed and breakfast and I loved all the antique touches in the room. Unlike other reviews on the site, we never heard outside noise or disturbances from the restaurant. The food at the brunch was delicious. I highly recommend the shrimp and grits, which is a local favorite.

Overall I was very happy with my stay and would definitely go back the next time I am in Charleston.

I chose the Bridal Suite for its location atop the third floor of this historic building which has been extensively renovated. It was a plush and comfortable retreat decorated with lovely antiques facing the street. Unlike other reviewers, I heard no noise on this Sunday night. The breakfast is in the small dining room on the first floor. It was an adequate starter for the day. The location near the water and in an historic neighbourhood is perfect. I would not recommend the elevator for the faint of heart.

We picked this place as a cheaper alternative to expensive Charleston B&B's. It is well located in a quiet pretty area and has good size rooms for a short stay but remember this is an inn so you don't get the usual friendly welcome and helpful service of a B&B.
We had two rooms on the first floor and on the Friday night they held a wedding reception. No problem from the guests but at midnight the staff decided to wish each other goodnight outside one of our rooms. 'Complimentary' breakfast on Saturday was continental as advertised but we had to hunt around a long time for the only staff member on duty to top up the juice and coffee pots. I do recommend staying on Saturday night - with ear plugs - as you get a 'complimentary' brunch in the morning which is great but you are obliged to leave a tip.

My husband and I chose the Olde Village Post House for our small wedding reception and used 4 of the 6 guest rooms for ourselves and wedding guests. The entire staff, especially Kristyn, was wonderful to work with and made us feel very welcome and everyone genuinely cared about our special weekend. The food & service for the reception was exemplary as was the food and service in the main dining room. The previous reviews mentioned the noise from the restaurant/banquet rooms but we stayed 3 nights and didn't notice it at all. Unfortunately, the weekend we were there, Charleston experienced a heat wave and it was 100 each day. Being an old building the AC wasn't super chilly but it was adequate and they brought in a portable unit for the Blue Room where we had our reception. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and plan to visit there next time we are in town. The hamburgers are particularly delicious and you have to try a Shem Creek Sunset in the bar! The prices for the guest rooms and menu for the reception were very reasonable and the Inn is easy to find and beautifully situated in the Old Village.

Our stay at the Old Village Post House was really a mixed bag.
We stayed on the 3rd floor, since previous reviews noted the noise emenating from the bar/restaurant on the first floor. Nice try. The establishment also has banquest rooms on the second floor, which were host to a festive (and noisy) banquet on the Friday night we stayed. In addition, there was no hot water in the afternoon when we checked in. Finally, and the piece that toasts my biscuits, we were offered a military discount when we booked the room. Nobody asked for a military ID when we checked in. I would've been happy to provide one. Nobody was in the office when we checked out, so the nice young gentleman who served us breakfast said, "Leave the key, they'll take care of it when they get in." When the B&B staff got in, they called to complete the billing, but informed us that they would not honor the military discount - no discussion. I bet they fly the flag on the 4th as well.
On to the positive: The B&B sits in a wonderful neighborhood - we strongly advise taking a walk and seeing the ancient oaks and beautiful old homes. The old rexall drug with a soda fountain two doors down is a hoot. Dinner in the restaurant was absolutely wonderful (we had the salmon and lamb - yum). The restaurant staff was top notch & very friendly. The final plus is that prices (despite getting shtooped for the mil discount) are better than across the bay in historic Charleston.
So, to sum it up, come to dine, but if you stay the night, bring ear plugs...and make sure you get the price in writing.

We stayed here for four nights in a queen room, the least expensive and smallest. The good news is there is a very nice restaurant and bar on the first floor, with a great happy hour with drink and food specials. You just walk out your room, down the stairs, and there it is. How cool. Its like having a bar in your living room. The bad news is that bar is still there at night, when you want to sleep, right above your room, with chortling, gaffawing guests. Not cool. One loud talker was with the night manager right at the bottom of the steps for all to hear. We went down, and told him enough. Anyway, I do not recommend these rooms because they are very small and they are right above the restaurant. If you stay, get a larger room on the third floor, it will be worth the extra money. The public areas are very nice but the rooms do need some updating and TLC, walls needed painting, mattress needed replacing, bathroom had problems. We enjoyed the free hot breakfast and we had no problem with the staff - in fact, the bartender and Inn managers were very friendly and welcoming. We have been to Charleston before and stayed downtown at the Market Pavilion. We like this location in Mt Pleasant because you can walk to Shem Creek bars and in 10 minutes you can be in town or you can be at the beaches of Sullivan or Isle of Palm.
