“Pleasantly Surprised”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

After reading some of the review we approached the visit with some trepidation. The biggest problem we had was the size of the house tour group - over 50 people. Half that size would be better. Our docent Bob did his best and it was good. We watched the Gullah Culture presentation. It alone was worth the price of admission to the plantation. The Gullah Gal performance was at a high professional level. The tram tour was fun and informative. The fact that the house was built in the 1930's was used as a point to reflect on our expectations of what a plantation great house should look like based on impressions foisted on us by 80 years of Hollywood starting with gone with the wind

“Quintessential southern plantation!”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

If you fell in love with the scenery in movies like Gone With the Wind and The Patriot, then Boone Hall Plantation is a must see. The Avenue of Oaks is breathtaking and the Cotton Dock is a quiet corner of the grounds many people miss.

“Great Tour”
Reviewed May 18, 2013

Very educational. Unlike many plantation tours that I have done, there is a lot of information given about the lives of the african slaves both during and after slavery. This is a working plantation so it is interesting to see everything that is grown there. I was disappointed that the main house in not original but the grounds and gardens are beautiful. Plan to spend several hours there.

“A working plantation, good tours, restored slave quarters”
Reviewed May 16, 2013

Boone Hall Plantation, on Mount Pleasant, is a 500 plus acre property, with a gorgeous entrance avenue lined with huge oak trees. The current home on the property dates to the 1930's, and has been featured in various TV shows and movies, including North and South, and The Notebook. Tours of the inside of the home are relatively short but informative. A tram tour covers the grounds. They are included in the admit price. There are restored slave quarters, the best representation we saw on our trip to South Carolina. There are lectures on the Gullahs (freed African-Americans who developed wonderful cooking and crafting skills) and the lives of the slaves. The gardens in front of the house are very nice. Go see it!!

“The One Plantation to See”
Reviewed May 14, 2013

This is the best of the restored southern plantations in the Charleston area. Take the time to walk through the old slave quarters. The tree-lined driveway leading to the mansion is spectacular.
