When you think of a southern plantation this is what you picture. My wife and I enjoyed our vist and the education that we gained going through the slave house''s, each of which had an an exhibit on diffent aspects of black history. The best part of the visit was a presentation that is held twice a day on the Gulla (local black history) An actor relates the history of the Gulla and enterains the crowd with songs and speaking in the Gulla language. I wasn't expected much, but came away with a great experience

Although the Slave Street was really interesting, the Mansion was built in 1936. We would have preferred an older, more authentic home, especially since we had to pay not only to get in, but for the cab ride to and from. Not really worth the money.

The historical presentations at the plantation are fabulous. I particularly enjoyed the Gullah presentation. Wonderful learning experience for both young and old.

The "Avenue of Oaks" is breath taking, Huge live oaks flank the entrance, you get the "slave gullah talk", always well done, also a tour of the mansion and a ride thru the plantation for entrance fee of about $17.00 for adults, or better yet for $80.00 you get a yearly pass that allow you and 3 other visitors multiple visits, we live in SC, so my husband and I get the pass, that way when we have visitors several times a year we can take them at no charge. Most other plantations charge more and give less. Many movies, ie: The Notebook, Queen and more have been filmed here. Events held throughout the year, visit website for schedule.
