“fish stew with no fish”

McClellanville Diner
Restaurant details
Reviewed July 15, 2014

I stopped in for lunch and ordered the fish stew(one of the specials). What came out of the kitchen was a bowl of rice with tomatoe sauce on it and not one piece of fish. When I mentioned this to the waitress, she became very defensive and said 'Well that's just the way it is'. Very disappointing. Will not return and don't recommend.

We ate there yesterday and loved the seafood. Husband had a combo of shrimp and oysters with the cole slaw, all very good. I had the flounder with Mac n cheese and found it very light and tasty.
It's an old building that doesn't look like much but inside very friendly people. Locals obviously eat here quite regularly. Everyone knew each other. Very nice.

My husband & I stopped in here for breakfast once & it was delicious. Then another time for lunch & it was pretty good. TODAY we had lunch there again & it wasn't worth it.

The She Crab Soup was very good & not expensive, as it is most other places. The rest of the meal was blazay. We both had pork chops. They were too thin & too bland. He had the mashed potatoes & said they were OK. I had the Cole Slaw - it was very good & homemade. We both had the collard greens & they were so-so, but the dish had more water than veggie & made a mess when we tried to get it on our forks.

The place is an old, quaint, country place. The bathrooms are out back. The heating ducts run down the wall in the middle of the place.

So, if you're looking for a place to eat that looks good - look elsewhere. If you're looking for some decent food while in the middle of nowhere (LONG stretch to Charleston), this place is OK.

Went there looking for "local flavor". You know, where the locals go to eat. Well, the first locals that we encountered eating there were the ants crawling across the table. We were reseated but should have left. The food was poor and took forever to arrive, even though there were only 2 other people in the place. The longer we sat, the more grunge we observed. The place needs a thorough cleaning and perhaps a complete overhaul. Don't waste your time stopping here. There are MUCH better options in McClellanville, specifically TW Grahms.
