“Great meal”
Reviewed April 20, 2013

Had a fantastic meal last night at Chianti South. Food was fresh and hot. Service a bit slow, but they were busy. Will be back.

“Very disappointing”
Reviewed April 18, 2013

We have enjoyed this Italian restaurant many times, but we were unimpressed the last time we visited a couple of years ago. Recently we decided to give it another try. I am sorry to report that the food ranged from poor to undistinguished. First course house salad was plain lettuce--mostly chicory--plopped on the plate with dressing in a cup. Bread was warm, but of no particular interest. The olive oil on the table tasted bitter. My wife had veal piccata; I had veal marsala. She felt the piccata was overly lemony; I felt the marsala was too sweet. But even more disappointing, the meat itself was horribly overcooked and very dry and tasteless. The vegetables, an overcooked melange, were unappealing. We answered the "how is everything" question honestly; the management deducted the cost of one entree from our bill. Service was fine; atmosphere welcoming; the noise level, normally OK, was unusually high because of an adjacent party of 20 golfers. But when the food is poor, nothing else really matters.

“Great dining”
Reviewed April 13, 2013 via mobile

The food and service were excellent. Had cavatelli dish and my husband had chicken Marsala.. Both were delicious followed by an amazing bread pudding with golden raisins and pistachios.. The coffee was great as well.. We each had a drink and the bill was just under $70. Shane , our waitress was very friendly and informative.. Great dinner.. Will be back again soon!

“Real good Italian”
Reviewed April 2, 2013

The owner Lattino, not sure of the spelling, has been in the area for years. More than 20 years ago he had a great place when you could only get fried in the area. Now Chianti South is really outstanding.

“Always Exceptional”
Reviewed March 31, 2013

When you tire of the fish restaurants when visiting the Myrtle Beach area, Chianti South is just the place to go. This is not one of the inexpensive beach dives, but an exceptionally good Italian restaurant in the South. We have been coming since the previous owners ran it and continue to visit every time we are at the beach. Our favorite waitress Amanda and the entire staff are professional and friendly. The food is always consistently good. The bread is outstanding, all the salad dressings are homemade as are most of the pastas. The wine list always wins a Wine Spectator Award. You need a reservation as this is a well known gem and very popular with the locals. All pastas can be made as an appetizer portion and I urge you to try them. We had 2 specials of the night, Wild Striped Bass and a Stuffed Pork Chop and both were exceptional. We split the Crespelline Pasta as an appetizer - light as air crepe filled with ricotta and spinach with an Alfredo type sauce. I wanted to lick the plate.
Don't miss the beautiful live oak trees that are in the yard, they are a landmark.
