“Great Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 10, 2011

We were tipped off about this gem of a B&B and are we happy we tried it. The rooms, the fabulous dinner, the hosts, the staff, were all exemplary. Everyone went out of their way to ensure that our strict dietary requirements were met. We will definitely return.
By the way, exploring the town of Latta was a great experience in itself.

What's not to love? The house and room was immaculate, the food and wine superb, and the owners and staff were warm and inviting. My wife and I spent our anniversary here and were treated like royalty. I highly recommend staying (and eating) here. I will definitely stay here again.

My wife and I spent a night at Abingdon Manor on our way back from Florida to Maryland and little did we know that we were saving the best for last. From the attentive owners and staff, to stunning property and top-notch cuisine we'll be sure and make this a favorite stop anytime we're in the area.

Wonderful place to stay and have dinner when traveling on 95. Great stop over for us during our trip south during the holidays. Truly a comfortable room and delicious dinner.

Each year for the past four years my wife and I travel from New Jersey to Florida when the weather turns nasty in the northeast. The trip south on I-95 is long and tiresome punctuated with average to below average accommodations and dining. The motels generally are old and not usually the cleanest places.

A friend told us about the Abingdon Manor in Latta South Carolina, near Florence. The location is about half way to Vero Beach Florida. I checked out the inn on the web and was impressed with its story. We made reservations. The reservation was acknowledged almost immediately by email along with general information about our stay.

We arrived at 5.30pm. The day started at 7am, so we were ready to settle down for a nice dinner and a good night's sleep. We were greeted by the innkeeper, Michael who welcomed us and helped with our overnight bags. He informed us that cocktails were at 7pm followed by dinner at 7.30. and took us to our room.

The room was charming. It was spacious and beautifully appointed with period antiques appropriate for a 100 year old mansion. It also featured a working fire place. The bed was a queen size and was very comfortable. The in-suite bath was large, well appointed with guest amenities, luxurious towels, and a great shower.

We arrived in the ladies parlor at 7pm and were offered something to drink. Our host offered a French Chardonnay, which was excellent. We enjoyed the comfort of the room and the lighted fireplace. We were there about fifteen minutes when another couple joined us. We chatted with them until we were called for dinner..

We were escorted to the dining veranda. The main dining room had been reserved for a local group. The veranda was perfect with four tables set for two persons. The tabletop featured beautiful linen, fine china, sterling silver, fine crystal and a fresh floral arrangement.

Michael told us about dinner and the wine list. He suggested a Brunello Montalchino for our Italian medley which was the dinner selection for the evening. The meal was simply excellent. Every course was creatively done and very well prepared and presented. Michael's wife and co-innkeeper joined us after dinner, thanked us for coming, and chatted briefly with each table. It was a very nice touch.

We retired to our room, lit the fire, and enjoyed a good night's sleep punctuated occasionally by train whistle.

The following morning we showered and ordered breakfast for 7.45. As with dinner the night before, our breakfast was simple, but unique. Bacon and eggs over thick toast severed on a bed of arugula and fresh hot delicious coffee.

Our one night vacation was over and we were on the road again for the last leg of our trip. The major difference now is that we know where we'll stay on the return trip to New Jersey!

My husband and I love to stay at Relais and Chateau properties. This was every bit as good. I wouldn't change anything about this beautiful B&B. The property was well maintained. The innkeepers were gracious. The rooms understatedly elegant. The dinner was exquisite from the coconut lime sorbet to the lobster/seafood in parchment paper with Diana Krall playing in the background. Upon returning to our room there were chocolates on our pillow a bottle of champagne and a fire waiting to be lit. I don't reccomend driving from Philadelphia to Florida. But if you have to, put the Abingdon Manor on your itinerary

We visited Abingdon Manor for the weekend, with three other couples. The gals did cooking classes and the men golfed. We had a fine time with great food. The Inn is gorgeous with wonderful beds, linens and warm, caring service.
