Everything at The Sanctuary was FABULOUS!! This was our second visit booked with Whatahotel.com. The site offers great rates and upgrades. The staff at the hotel were friendly and the food good, if expensive. Great walks on the beach and extensive bike trails made for a fun week end at the beach.

Yes, the experience is that good. You are on a lush sub-tropical island, just forty five minutes from the most beautiful and historic city in America, Charleston SC., but you feel as if you are entering a private estate in the Caribbean as an invited guest. The hotel is sited to offer dramatic beach and ocean views, which you will see beyond a manicured lawn, upon entering the spacious lobby. Actually, the lobby area is my favorite place to relax with a capuccino and a good book; it feels very much as an English country house would. The staff are attentive and helpful but do not hover.
We recommend choosing a Premium Ocean View room, a corner room with two balconies that open to different Atlantic perspectives.
Our favorite restaurant is Jasmine Porch, located in the hotel and offering BLD in a relaxed, but elegant setting. Al fresco dining is available during the warmer months. Bear in mind that there are several other very good restaurants in the hotel and around the island.
Lots to do as well. Start with the beach, then golf or tennis, a nature walk, alligator wrestling (just joking). But finish at the spa. GiGI for facials; Asta for massage. There are also wonderful children's programs year round.
We have come back to The Sanctuary time and again to step away from responsibility and to be renewed in body and spirit. It does not disappoint.

An up-to-date luxury hotel with the feel of a classic from another era. Young staff, but very friendly and helpful. The only place to stay on Kiawah.

The hotel deserves those 5 stars. It is one of the best we have stayed at. The service in particular was second to none and the beauty of Kiawah is really special. It is a wonderful place for tennis, golf and cycling. It was also surprisingly kid friendly for such a luxurious property.

I was very impressed with the hotel, it's tasteful elegant decor, wonderfully plentiful sitting rooms with fireplaces and chess tables and great views of the Atlantic Ocean. Rooms and high queen beds were a delight, but I have to agree with reviewer from Long Island about quality of food. Having been to Alinea in Chicago, the degustation tasting menu was less than expected at the Ocean Room. Better order a la carte. Jasmine Porch brunch did not have extensive selection befitting of a hotel of this calibre. Service was fine. Hotel seemed very quiet at this time of the year which was a treat for us.

We spent several nights at the Sanctuary Hotel attending their first annual Jazz Weekend and had a wonderful experience. This hotel is truly first class with a wonderful staff and beautiful rooms. The amenities are excellent and the location is absolutely beautiful. Located right on the ocean it could not be more romantic and if you are a golfer you will have the opportunity to play some of the countries best golf courses including the famous Ocean Course. I can't recommend this hotel enough. You will not be disappointed.

We have never been to a finer hotel on the US mainland. The setting and rooms are exquisite. The public areas are wide open. Everything is tasteful and upscale. The rooms are really grand with balconies overlooking the sea. And, the golf is incredible.
Unfortunately, this exceptional and romantic hotel comes at a price....the golf is very expensive, but outstanding. I had only one disappointment: the food does not live up to the excellence of the hotel, rooms & golf. I would highly recommend this hotel for a romantic or golf vacation.
