“Truly great hotel; Everything is considered and supplied.”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

We had a great weekend here. From the ultra friendly greetings and service upon pulling up, to the goodbye from the same; great restaurants onsite; total beach services (chairs, cushions, umbrellas, food, etc), transpo to all golf courses.
Sure its expensive, but its built into the service and available options there onsite.
The rooms are wonderful from balcony (large) to sitting area furniture to bath and separate shower; great room.
Shops onsite, great homemade pastry. The reception guy was amazing working very hard to ensure we got everything we needed.
Truly met any expectations I could have had.

The setting on Kiawah Island is one similar to those often found as the subject in paintings of beautiful southern beaches and wetlands. The Sanctuary has been ingeniously placed into this breathtaking setting as if it belonged there . . . as if something would be missing if it weren't there.

Your drive to the Sanctuary is like a trip through a secret garden on your way to a special place. Upon reaching the hotel you will realize that you have indeed arrived at a very special place. The staff, from the valets to those at the desk and beyond, will make you feel very welcome. I'm not quite sure how it happened, maybe by magic, but my wife and I were greeted by name upon our arrival and often addressed by name during our stay.

Upon entering the grand lobby at the Sanctuary you will immediately be captivated by the view of the Atlantic Ocean before you and impressed by the magnificent staircases on each side of the lobby. These things will excite you with the promise of what you will experience during your stay at the Sanctuary.

Our room was beautiful and exactly what we had expected. The housekeeping staff was exceptional and always met our needs long before they became needs. The turndown service and care of our room was always warm and personal. My wife thought the staff members were like elves, who appeared to do their work, then disappeared without ever being seen. But, we knew they had been there because they often left treats.

I've noticed that there are references to pricing in other reviews of the Sanctuary. While it is not inexpensive, it is quite unique and very special. There is an old adage that holds true with nearly every exchange in life and that is . . . you get what you pay for. If you want a world class setting, world class accommodations and world class treatment, then you will not be disappointed at the Sanctuary. I lost track of the number of times were were asked, "What can we do to make your stay better?" Answer . . . nothing. Our stay was wonderful.

Because Trip Advisor links to any previous reviews of the same property by a "Reviewer" (typically that link appears at the bottom of a current review) . . . I feel the need to address my last review of the Sanctuary, which was written in June. That one was not glowing.

You are unlikely to find a property listed on Trip Advisor that doesn't have one or more reviews that property management regrets and wishes hadn't appeared. A very important thing to know about the Sanctuary is that they don't simply regret a visitor's disappointment, they address it quickly and personally. My last review had been listed for barely minutes when I was contacted by a member of management at the Sanctuary. The manager asked for detailed information that would make it possible to address the issue and offered what I perceived to be a sincere apology. Since I didn't expect anything from him, for me, the apology was enough - sometimes things happen that shouldn't. But, this manager wasn't simply satisfied with my acceptance of his apology. He said he hoped the Sanctuary would have the opportunity to prove that our experience had been a very rare one. His approach to addressing the things I had written actually made me want to return. Since my wife and I planned to attend a wedding on Kiawah in September, we decided to go back to the Sanctuary. It was not a mistake, as evidenced by the review above.

Because we own a company involved in the world of luxury goods, we understand very well the expectations of those who shop and experience life at that level. After our most recent visit to the Sanctuary this past weekend, it is obvious to me that the management of this beautiful island hotel not only understand those expectations, but meeting and exceeding them are a very important part of their management philosophy.

Because we have friends who live on Kiawah Island, we expect to visit many times in the future. Whenever possible we plan to make our home at the Sanctuary.

If you are planning a special trip anywhere near Charleston, you should consider treating yourself to a stay at the Sanctuary on Kiawah Island.

This resort is phenomenal! Everything about the resort and the island are beautiful! The service can't be beaten, the rooms are exceptionally clean and nice, and the grounds are immaculate. We got there several hours before check in, so we used the locker rooms to change and they are great. The food is unbelievably good! They have several running trails that are beautiful, half on a wooded path, half on the beach. They also have several tennis courts that many people were using and bikes that can be rented. We went mid September and the first day there were TONS of 'Love' bugs. Being at the pool or on the sandy part of the beach was not comfortable as we were constantly swatting them away. But down by the ocean they weren't bad at all but you aren't allowed to take the chairs down there. The staff told me that they are only in the area for a few weeks and we were there at the tail end of their stay. So my suggestion would be to avoid that time. In the mornings they weren't as bad either. And obviously the hotel can't do anything about keeping them away. Other than that, our stay was complete bliss.

I was fortunate enough to attend a conference at The Sanctuary. The conference set up is great for a smaller-type of conference. The highlight though was the huge guest rooms and bathrooms. The balconies are great for sitting outside and relaxing. The food at all venues was great and the scenery was lovely. It's a pricey trip but worth it if you can afford to go.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the pool or ocean.

Beauty and elegance combined with a welcoming comfort and warmth. Immaculate in every detail. Even though a bit pricey, the golf courses are interesting and well maintained. Looking forward to our next stay.

Room Tip: I think the direct ocean view is the best and definitely the 5th floor.

A special thanks to Greg at the check in for all his extra efforts he was very helpful and is a great asset to The Santuary at Kiawah. Property is beautiful and the beach is perfect. Great job to all the staff of Kiawah I will be back next spring and all the years to come. Thanks Eric & Sophia Ottawa

This was our first visit here to celebrate our anniversary. We stayed on the concierge floor, enjoying an oversized ocean view room with every amenity. Our room was beautifully furnished, and the housekeeping staff did an outstanding job each day. The Concierage Room offered a delicious breakfast, all day snacks, evening wine, desserts, and appetizers. Kimberly, one of the staff there, was always very attentive, and, she was a highlight of our stay. The Concierage desk staff always greeted us warmly, and made each day perfect. We ate an excellent dinner at Jasmine Porch, and Matt and Melissa did an outstanding job as our servers. Dinner the following night at the Ocean Room was a five star evening. Our only complaint - we couldn't stay longer! We'll definitely return to this paradise!
