This April marked our second trip to this property in as many years, and is the perfect base from which to explore Kiawah Island and the surrounding area. Charleston is about a 50-minute drive away, which we were more than willing to bear given the beauty of Kiawah. The owners are accommodating and made us feel welcome, calling a day after our arrival to make sure everything was okay. The house itself is very clean and well-maintained and set up perfectly for our group of eight adults. It has a large living room and kitchen for times when we wanted to be together, while offering privacy when needed. A game room on the first floor provides a casual setting for card games and available board games. The master bedroom suite located downstairs is very spacious and well-appointed, while the three upstairs bedrooms are more than sufficient. The deck at the back of the house is a great spot for gazing out at the pond and searching for the resident alligator.
There were enough bicycles for all of us to enjoy the 10-minute leisurely ride to the beach, and the baby carrier was especially helpful to haul the beach umbrella, cooler, etc. Other recreational equipment is available as well.
Besides the beach, we also enjoyed basketball, tennis and horseback riding, the latter on Seabrook Island. If golf is your game, the Kiawah Island courses are beautiful but pricey; we chose to play two courses closer to Charleston for much less.
