“Peaceful, remote, and beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 1, 2011

We have enjoyed three family vacations on Kiawah Island- each time renting a home or condo. The island offers a unique combination of beach and wildlife...and incredible golf! Kiawah Island is a good fit for people who prefer outdoor activities (bike riding on beach for example). Limited options for restaurants/shopping. A day trip to Charleston (40 minute drive) is a must.

“A Perfect weekend.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2011

45 minutes out of Charlston you can find Kiawah island. Quiet, safe, with a quant shopping village for groceries or clothing, rent bikes and kayaks. There is no end of activities to do. A full service spa is even available at the Sanctuary - the 5 diamond property on island. My bet though? Rent a nice little condo. Ride your bike on the beach and pick up some sand dollars walking along the beach.

“Kiawah Island is great family vacation without the commercialism”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 15, 2011

If one is in search of the quite warm sandy beach family vacation, Kiawah and Seabrook islands are the place to go. I have made this journey with family eight out of the last ten years and have a fabulous time every visit. There is something to be said about the warm salt air, beautiful golf courses and going on long peaceful bike rides that allow for some great photography of the scenic Atlantic coastline and catch occasional shots of island osprey, gators, and deer!
The beach is pristine, the walking trails are numerous, and the bicycle is probably the best method of transportion to really explore the different parts of the island. This is also the place to be for the golf enthusiast as the five Kiawah resort courses are located on on the island. Do be prepared to pay a bundle! Often times, I will have to make the painful trek about a half hour into Charleston to play much cheaper courses. There are several good quality rental companies to use for reserving a vacation home or villa for the week. The first few years during our trips to Kiawah, we stayed with inlaws in the Tennis club area, but as my family grew we had to rent a larger villa which we had success through resort quest and vrbo.com. If island life isn't enough, take in a great barbecue or seafood dinner in downtown Charleston which is about a half hour away.

My wife, father and I visited for a 3 day weekend and had the most amazing time. The Ocean Course and Osprey Point are fantastic courses (the best in the Carolinas). the Trip of a lifetime.

“Sunny sky's and sunny services”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2011

Returned to Kiawah Island for about the 4th or 5th time in 20 years and was not disappointed. All the amenities were great. Although pricey, because they virtually have a monopoly on island dining, food and service was beyond what would be expected. I'd guess they even manage/oversee the menus so that each has different cuisine. In other words, all the restaurants didn't feature mahi mahi over a bed of rise. There was a fish, steak, and even an upscale BBQ resturant that even had a separate beer menu.

I'm not going to rate golf - we played all 4 courses on Kiawah - as every golf magazine and publication have already written volumes on their playability and beauty that I agree with. Most importantly, marshals politely kept the PACE OF PLAY on each course at about 4 to 4 1/4 hours. No six hour rounds missing beach time or being late for a dinner reservation. This was the biggest selling point for my wife of the entire trip.

Accommodations were just OK. We stayed in the same unit we stayed in 3 years ago. Paid a "premium" fee for an ocean view unit that was supposedly upscale. 3 years ago it was. New paint, appliances, etc. On this trip the carpet is stained, walls marked, bare light bulbs due to broken fixtures, and minimal dishware due to breakage. It doesn't look like a penny has been put I to this place other than the "rush" cleaning it gets between Saturday morning check out and Saturday afternoon check in.

Overall, a great stay and we will be back. "Wowed" in all aspects of food, service , golf, with just an OK rating on the unit.
