“Worth seeing!”
Reviewed October 17, 2012

If you are near Charleston it is worth vistng The Angel Oak Tree. If I remember correctly it is 65 feet tall, and 28 feet in circumference. Also, it has HUGE branches that sweep the ground. It is free to see but make sure you check the hours as we went on a Sunday morning and it didn't open until 1:00. We came back that way after visiting Kiawah Island.

“cool tree worth a quick stop”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

If you're going by that way anyway this is worth a quick stop but wouldn't go out of my way for it. Huge live oak with branches that sweep down to the ground. No charge to stop and look.

“Worth the slight detour to see”
Reviewed October 9, 2012

Several people recommended stopping by to see the tree. It is in a little city park just off the main road. It is free--would have been an excellent place to have a picnic lunch... Took a couple of pictures and then headed on to the next activity.

“Well worth the side trip!”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

Going to look at a tree may sound boring, but this was one of the highlights to our trip to Charleston. If you are heading to Folly or Kiawah Islands, take the time to see this amazing, old, enormous oak tree. It's even free (though we did leave a donation at the small gift shop).

“One of a kind”
Reviewed October 1, 2012

Like many natural attractions, you must approach this on its own terms. You will drive south from Charleston into ever more rural surroundings. You will travel down unfamiliar roads and perhaps get a little lost. You drive into the woods down an unpaved road and may not even realize you have arrived. The small gift shop is quaint. You walk around it and begin to see long tentacles emanating from massive center trunk. You walk toward it and the tree is everywhere, welcoming you into its woodsy embrace. Would be worth it to pay but it is free, donations welcome. Truly a natural wonder, it offers a reality check on your sense of scale and time.
