Description: Chef Fred Neuville is excited to embark on his first solo venture. "With Fat Hen, I am striving to create a neighborhood restaurant with a relaxed atmosphere and signature French-inspired Southern cuisine," he says. "Johns Island is a fast-growing area and I believe island residents - along with others from around Charleston - will appreciate what we have to offer." Fat Hen's main dishes center around innovative French classics with Low country flourishes, sourced from the finest local produce farmers. The Braised Chicken features locally raised free-range chicken braised in red wine with rich bacon lardons, root vegetables & mushrooms. Fat Hen's Short Rib, a favorite signature dish among family and friends, is braised for hours in a rich veal broth.

Ate here Thursday Sept 13, 2012 and have had the pleasure of dining here several times when visiting Kiawah Island. The food is WONDERFUL, the service first rate. Never had a bad meal or a bad time, if you are in the area you owe it to yourself to stop in. Be warned from the outside it looks like a local burger and beer joint, but trust me, park your car and go inside,,,,then the magic begins, when the Server comes to greet you and take your order and then brings the food ,,,,,,, it becomes a 5 star restaurant that leaves you wanting to dine there every night!!!! Cannot say enough good things about this place

The food was great as described by other reviewers, but the service was really great. I was with a large family group of eleven people, at large table, and our waiter handled the table very efficiently and with good humor. Even though it was a busy Saturday night of a holiday weekend, the food was delivered in a timely manner and all correct. We definitely had a top-notch dining experience.

Dinner for 6. Made reservation on Sunday for Friday; only time available was 5:30. Worked well. Set us up in an alcove with a circular table - great! Insulated us from the main dining area which was a bit of a hornets nest. Everyone enjoyed their food. I had coq au vin - very tasty. Food server was congenial, knowledgeable, and attentive. Typical bill for appetizer, entree, and desert plus wine, tax and tip was about $100 per couple. Will go to Fat Hen again - gladly!

The Fat Hen has lots of local food, but always with a flair. The flounder we had was excellent...very different and not fried. With my gluten allergies, they took care to make sure whatever I ordered would be OK for me.

Service in general was wonderful, efficient, and fairly quick for such a busy night. Wine choices were good. Desserts wonderful!

This restaurant is worth driving to from Charleston or Folly. I have eaten there quite a few times, and I have never been disappointed.

I've been here twice and was very impressed with the quality of their breakfast. The waitress was pretty testy during my second visit but that didn't take away from the great breakfast. Their french toast is amazing, the eggs benedict and the egg sandwich were both very well done. I would love to see more vegetarian options, especially since this is a John's island restaurant that prides itself in sourcing local produce. This place is not open on saturdays and getting a reservation for sunday brunch is not that easy, but overall a great ambience and you can choose between indoor and outdoor seating. Would definitely go here again
