Beach place to be on the sand in Isle of Palms! Clean, chair/umbrella rentals, changing rooms, and bathrooms. Always go here when in IOP!

“Not bad”
Reviewed July 19, 2014 via mobile

Great accommodations but get here early for a good spot on the beach. It gets very crowded and people don't have any fear of getting really close to where you are set up. Nothing like the beaches of Florida like New Smyrna.

“Easy parking, decent facilities but way to crowded.”
Reviewed July 19, 2014

The best part of IOP, is the parking. There is lots of meter parking at $1.00 per hour, and all day parking at several parking lots ranging from $5 to $10. Facilities are relatively clean, and there are outdoor showers to remove the sand after a day at the beach. The beach itself is nice, but was extremely overcrowded.

“Nice town, messy beach!”
Reviewed July 12, 2014 via mobile

The first day we were there, it was fine. It's a decent beach, but super-crowded. From Wednesday to Friday, we saw all kinds of trash, everything from pads to Coke cans washing up. There were mostly seemingly good people there, but DISGUSTING public restrooms and showers that no one waits in line for. I don't know where the "nice facilities" everyone talks about are hiding! We loved the town, but the beach itself was so-so. Great early or late, but forget mid-day!

“Great Beach! Great 4th of July Fireworks!”
Reviewed July 10, 2014

Isle of Palms and IOP Beach is a really nice place to visit. My husband and I always set aside time to spend here when we visit Charleston. The first afternoon we just spent time on the beach reading, people watching, and enjoying the sounds of the waves. On July 4th we came to Isle of Palms for an early supper at one of the great restaurants there and then went to the beach about 5 PM. IOP puts on a great 4th of July fireworks display. When we are in Charleston on the 4th, we always come over to IOP for this event. In fact one 4th we drove from our home 500 miles away for the weekend just to see the fireworks. We had a great time just spending the evening at the beach, watching the beautiful sunset and then enjoying the fireworks display. What is really great about being at IOP is that you can watch the fireworks 'march' up coastal areas to IOP.
I would advise anyone coming to the 4th of July fireworks at the beach to anticipate a couple of things. The beach at the park closes at about 6:30 pm so they can prepare for the fireworks. Since the fireworks are set off on the pier, you can go about 350 yards left or right of the pier. You won't have the services of lifeguards, so be careful. Parking can be a problem, but if you arrive mid-afternoon, you should be able to find parking either at the park or on the street. Also, as you exit the fireworks be prepared to spend about an hour in traffic. No matter which way you leave IOP, you will have a traffic tie-up.
