“Wish it was warmer at the Boathouse”
Reviewed March 20, 2014 via mobile

We stopped at The Boathouse on breezy, chilly, slightly drizzly evening for dinner. Our table was protected by drawn plastic curtains so we were warm enough, but the view of the water was hazy at best through the not-so-clear plastic. That was the only downside, though. The staff was top notch; Dave, a Rhode Island transplant, was brimming with southern hospitality, good advice, and great service. Our appetizers and main courses were very good and the drinks were excellent. Parking was valet only. We'll be back when the weather turns!

We had dinner at the Boathouse this past week. Our party of 7 was seated at 2 "diamond" shape table put together. Needless to say, it was a strange configuration. When we questioned the hostess if there was another table, she proceeded to tell us this is done all the time and as many as 8 people have sat at this type of set up.....really. Our waiter asked if we wanted water all around but we had to ask if we could order something else to drink. We ordered the Crab Fritters and Low Country Eggrolls. Although both of the items were okay, I had just taken another out of town guest to another IOP restaurant the prior week which had fantastic Low Country Eggrolls with a wonderful sauce. I had the Pan Roasted Sea Scallops which were perfectly cooked. However, my husband had the Fried Seafood platter. Portions were lean (4 shrimp, skimpy piece of flounder). As far the the Best Ever Collard Greens, we both found them to be overcooked but understand the need since there were so many stems in them. Overall, the (over)price does not match the food. We have had guests the past 3 weeks and more to come as the weather improves. Sorry but we will not be returning to the Boathouse.

“Great service and seafood ”
Reviewed March 9, 2014 via mobile

A local recommended boathouse to us, so we thought we would give it a try as one of the few (only?) waterfront dining spots. If you eat here, definitely order fish. The traditional fare (fried green tomatoes, salad, Mac n cheese) was fine, but the fish was fantastic. My husband ordered the special (swordfish) and can't stop talking about it.

The service was really terrific and the view from the deck was ok, but a bit obstructed by glare on the screens. All and all a nice dinner.

We bought bait from this shop when I was young, but how much better it is now. Loved the uniqueness of the dishes. Don't go here and just get the same old fried shrimp or any fried food. Be a risk taker and indulge in something delicious and different. I had the spicy shrimp and grits which was totally awesome. The "collard and sausage" egg roll was a surprising take and the swordfish was some of the best ever. Love the transformation from bait shop to a unique food experience.
