We've stayed at Wild Dunes 4 times now, and we're currently here. This formerly excellently-manned and smooth-running complex has now fallen to perfunctory and under-manned service and major glitches in both it's functioning and it's functionality.

It seems that under the stress of opening the Village, with it's attendant noise and construction, the staff is overworked and as confused as the guests regarding daily schedules and what amenities are currently open for business, or, even what is included in the Village itself.

We're not high-season, yet, but we've ALWAYS been here the first weekend in April and this is the first year that concierge members have preferred to continue their personal phone conversations rather than respond to guests waiting for information or to check-in (this happened twice, with different "hosts.")

We booked a room in the brand new Villages at Wild Dunes; after having looked online at the rooms and studios, which seemed to indicate that each had balconies (who wants to come from the snow to be cooped up without a balcony in the Southeast?). No such luck; though I booked the room directly with the property, and was assured of the balcony, there was no balcony and no way to open the windows to catch the breeze or enjoy a breakfast or snack.

We were relocated to a room at the Boardwalk Inn and were satisfied, even without the refrigerator we were promised. The corner room is smaller, certainly showing it's age; but it is adequate for our needs.

We were dismayed however to wait over an HOUR for breakfast yesterday (while paying over $15.00 each for a basic breakfast and beverages.)

So we decided to go to the Dunes Deli today - only to find out the Deli was closed. So, we're off to Mt. Pleasant.

Oh, and the fitness facility that was supposed to open today? April Fools!

Such a shame, overall, for what was a lovely, European-style mode of service.

And Wild Dunes, my confirmation number was 12300SY008853, if you care to look up the particulars.

Just got back from the Wild Dunes Isle of Palms SC. We rented a 2 bedroom villa through travelocity. The property is very nice.
Beach great! Pools Great! All activities were fine.

However, the 2-bedroom villa we stayed in was extremely outdated and dirty! The towels were very worn out. They were threadbare and had holes in them! The bedspreads were stained (all 4 beds). Blankets were very worn. Every dish had cracks in it. Looks like they had replaced the kitchen floor recently.
The worst was the carpets in the bedrooms! I have never seen such dirty carpets. We wore socks the entire time we stayed there.

The hair dryer and electric socket was broken in one bathroom. I have to say that the hotel did come right away to fix the outlet and provide a new hairdryer. They also came right away to fix the hot water. After 1 shower, the next person had none!

But if Wild Dunes resort rents out villas for the private owners, they should really check for cleanliness before they rent! I would think they would want to do this to protect their name and popularity!

The resort was very nice. I am sure other units and the new hotel was great!

If you are p[lanning on staying there I would check out the room before you un-pack!

We spent four nights here in one of the villas, and it even with an off-season discount it was not worth the money. The service is terrible - rooms were dirty, kitchen was dirty, bathroom was dirty. I had to call multiple times for clean towels (they brought 1 clean towel for two of us each morning). The bed was made by pulling the spread over rumpled sheets.

The front desk was always slow. Sometimes you would call, and it would ring for 10-15 times before someone picked up & put you on hold for 10 minutes.

They run a free shuttle service (we were a mile away from the restaurant), but it was always late. Sometimes you'd call for a pickup and they'd say it would be 20-30 minutes (the round trip couldn't have been more than 3-5 minutes).

The worst was that it the whole property had a terrible odor. There was some debate as to whether it was the paper plant or their sewage processing facilities. It doesn't matter, rather than waking up to the ocean smells & sounds, we woke up to banging & clanking and a smell like an overflowing toilet.

The main restaurant was fine, with slow service (and they were trying to get us out on time for another of their reservations). The other cafes/bars were unbelievable. We waited 20 minutes to get a menu.

It seems they are mostly interested in their property owners, and not in the people coming for a short vacation.

Also, you MUST have a car. There are not enough places to eat (unless you are going to do all your own cooking, and bring your groceries).

I stayed 4 nights and 5 days for a meeting in Feb/March. The rooms were very nice, large, and well appointed. The property was very large. Service was good. It had a very nice banquet hall / conference center. There is a long boardwalk leading to the beach. The beach was very wide yet the high tide comes right up to the last step of the walkway leading to the beach.
In the off-season when it is cold still, the place is dead. The shops are not open, the pools are empty, and there is not much to do. In the summer, I can see it would be a nice place to relax and unwind.

The Boardwalk Inn is a pleasant hotel in the middle of a resort-style property on the beach. I was there just one night, but the room was large, perfectly clean, the beds and linens were fantastic, the room service burger and fries were worth the (as everywhere) crazy room service prices. All the staff that I encountered were courteous and helpful. At a Priceline rate of about $120, it was a steal. I'd be thrilled to come back in the summer, the surrounding beach was very nice.

What a WONDERFUL time my family had at Wild Dunes. We stayed in Boardwalk Villa # 138 which is in the "heart" of the resort. 100yards from the ocean, 2 pools, bicycle rental, spa, golf and tennis all within walking distant. The 4 bedroom villa was nicely decorated with vibrant colors. Fully furnished kitchen, flat screen TV's and jetted tubs in all 4 baths! Extremely clean -

My family and I will definitely be going back to 138 Boardwalk Villa....

This hotel was much nicer than some reviews would have us believe. This was a very clean, well kept hotel. The people were all kind, and very professional. Our room was lovely, it overlooked the pools, with a very nice balcony with a table and two chairs. The room had a large bath, nice bedding, and very quiet. The beach is down a boardwalk with four pools, two heated and two not. The beach itself is wide and one of the nicest on the east coast. There is some construction but we had no problems with it. I would ask for a poolside room as the construction is on the front side of the building. We enjoyed ourself very much and hope others will try this hotel out themselves. I really thought it would be a great place to go with your children. It seemed very open to familes, which is not often the case with some resorts. We saw lots of familes having fun and feeling very at home. If you are looking for a resort that feels very exclusive maybe this is not for you, but if you want a very pretty, friendly, well kept resort by all means check it out.
