After reading some of the reviews about the resort I was left wondering, what people were complaining about. We stayed in the condos on the resort and found them both modern and clean. Some people coplained about the attitude of the staff. We found everyone was professional and extremely pleasant. Our daughter had a fever and guest services were very helpful in phoning a clinic and printing out directions for us. I really found the resort exceptional. The prices at the restaurants are a little pricey but not too bad. After staying at the St Regis in Puerto Rico in July I would say this place is just as nice and cheaper.

We had planned a short weekend right after Labor Day, so the high season was over (which we appreciate) and the local temps were so much more bearable than normal (probably as a result of the nearby hurricanes). We were to fly down from NYC area on Saturday morning and return on Monday afternoon. 15 min prior to our scheduled flight departure, the board changed to say cancelled. No rep, no announcement, nothing. So all those who were to be on the flight had to race to another terminal to get assistance. We were rebooked for later in the afternoon, this time with a connection in Charlotte. Not great, but fine. Sat around Newark airport for hours, and the flight we were now scheduled on kept getting delayed, to the point we would miss our connection, so now we need another connecting flight. All in all, we were supposed to have had a short flight getting us to Charleston by noon, as it stood, we sat in an airport or a plane for over 12 hrs that day, and did not get to Charleston until about 10 pm, and my mother's luggage did not make it with us. When we arrived at the Wild Dunes, we were tired, stressed, upset, and (some of us) cranky. They were lovely, and set my mother up with some much needed toiletries, and told us that our car would be valeted and luggage brought to our rooms (complimentary, of course!). Oh some much needed EXCELLENT customer service, and comfortable accomodation, finally. It was a savior.

We stayed in a 1br at the Village, about a 5 min walk to the Grand Pavilion pools and beach access, and literally directly above the check in area and several restaurants and shops. I can't speak about high summer season, but it was wonderfully quiet and serene while we were there. Everyone was extremely friendly, helpful, and nice. Such a rarity these days. The beach is gorgeous (beware the evil sand flies, get the spray repellent, they hurt, and kids scream when bit), the water was body temperature warm, and we had not one drop of rain during our stay, despite 2 hurricanes being active on the seaboard. We happened to also be in the area for Charleston Restaurant Week, so we tried SNOB and Magnolia. If you love fried chicken or shrimp and grits, do yourself a favor... (personally preferred Magnolia, and would recommend Hominy Grill for brunch). Resort is only about 30 min drive from Charleston, so if you are looking for a family friendly beach stay but within reach of a gorgeous southern city, def check out Wild Dunes. We will be back.

stayed at the village gardens and loved every minute of it. The room was gorgeous, and well-maintained. We went into the city several times and the concierge service was very helpful with their advice and they helped us coordinate several activities. We were surprised by the expansive property of the resort and all the activities and dining opportunities offered onsite. We rode bikes around the resort and onto the beach, we played tennis and golf, we dined at the sea island grill---awesome food and service--and we spent time at the pool and on the beach. We loved being so close to charleston, and also spent time there going out to dinner, on a ghost tour and a culinary food tour. Highly recommend staying here. we are already planning on returning.

I stayed at this resort last year and I was so pleased that I decided to spend my 40th birthday here. However, I was somewhat disappointed with my stay this time. I booked the village suite for myself and 2 others.

Negatives:
1. the suite had a foul odor emanating from the kitchen area
2. Fire alarm woke us up at 4:00 am. It was raining.

Positives:
1. Friendly/helpful staff
2. Resort grounds were beautiful

Thank you for your post. And thank you for choosing Wild Dunes to spend your 40th birthday! Please accept my apologies for the shortcomings in your most recent stay. We have learned that the fire alarm that went off at the most unfortunate hour of 4am was caused by a malfunctioning heat sensor in one of the elevators in the building. Our Engineering department immediately addressed the issue with the alarm company and it has been resolved. As well, we have our Housekeeping team investigating the odor now (perhaps a disposal issue in one of the suites). I am truly sorry of the circumstances around your most recent visit. We would love to welcome you back for your 41st birthday (or before!) to ensure we get it completely right this time. I can be reached directly at ffredericks@wilddunes.com. Thank you

We stayed at the Boardwalk Inn for several days and couldn't be happier! We had exceptional service. The minute we called for anything they were right there with anything we needed. The room was extremly clean and had everything we needed. We asked for additonal appliances and they brought them up immediately. The swimming pools were beautiful and we really enjoyed the tiki hut area where we had live entertainment, frozen drinks, (all poolside). The only thing we wished was that the pool stayed open later in the evening. The staff were nothing like I have ever experienced, and we travel alot! They really went out of their way!

Room Tip: If you stay at the Boardwalk Inn, make sure that you have the rooms that are ocean front. Be advised that you have the pools, boardwalk-lined condos, and tiki huts in front of you and you are actually "not on the beach". You can see the ocean and hear it, but oceanfront, it is not.
