“Art and Food, A Great Combination”
Reviewed November 21, 2013

Their motto says it all: The Studio, an Artistic Dining Experience. The Studio has (at least) three things going for it: the art collection, the food, the attentive staff. As you enter the restaurant, you are immersed in lovely original art by owner, manager, and hostess Lunonia Colella and guest artists. The latest work being painted is on the left as you walk into the dining area. The intimate dining area probably holds 40 diners or so.

Starters include soup, salad, and/or unique appetizer (e.g., grilled duck flauta seasoned with chipoltle & scallions). The entrees consist of four or five interesting choices from vegetarian/vegan, seafood, and meat items. Live music starts later in the evenings.

The fairly extensive wine list consists of mostly American wines, with emphasis on California and Oregon wines, but including wines from Australia, France, Italy, Chile, and Spain. We ordered a bottle of Sebastiani merlot but because they were out of stock, they offered a higher priced merlot at the same price. Nice touch!

Our entrees were the local grouper fillet (with blue crab, Asiago cheese, and sauce beurre blanc); grass fed local filet mignon (goat cheese, Carolina cajun shrimp, and a cabernet reduction); wild salmon fillet (fresh fruit salsa); and our adventurist had the three course tasting menu. All the food was expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and wonderfully tasty.

The service was attentive, but not suffocating, and we had plenty of time to comment on the many art works displayed around the dining room and even to leave the table to tour the art displayed in the Gallery Room. The prices here are competitive with non-chain restaurants that pride themselves on unique offerings and great service.

Did I mention that, for many of the works on display, the owner is both artist and model?

This is a great place for people to enjoy a superb dinner at a reasonable price. Google the restaurant to check out their menu and to find a coupon for a discount.

“absolute delightful surprise!”
Reviewed November 9, 2013

We were staying in Shipyard Plantation and decided to walk to a restaurant close by. Thought we would head down Pope Ave towards Coligny (as per norm) but then, at the last minute, turned right, drawn by the most delightful aromas.......ended up here and are SO glad we did! Impeccable service, delicious dinner....artistic and wonderful ambiance....5stars from us. Will definitely return, hopefully before the end of our trip here. We appreciate people who go above and beyond in their service and quality. Enjoyed the musician and the artist. We had the Three Course Tasting Meal that included the wine pairings with the dinner courses. it was incredible. the Place was about three quarters full. seemed like locals plus tourists. Nice mix. Alex was an excellent server. Nice suggestions, not overbearing. Not selling, just informative. Thank you for a satisfying evening.....:)

“Interesting combo of art and fine dining”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

We had an excellent meal last week at The Studio. It was one of our dress-up and go out for dinner nights while in Hilton Head. I am glad we decided to try this venue out. Service, menu and wine list was superb!

“Unique food”
Reviewed October 14, 2013

The food has the touch of preparation in your own kitchen with a very knowledgeable chef who uses healthy and exceptionally fresh ingredients. The "Pallette" gives a delightful array of 3 proteins - filet, lamb and fish. Great flavor with unique sauces and the freshest of salads. The service included checking on our requirements by the owner/artist. The ambiance is that of an artist's studio - very unique.
