M A's is a restaurant for special times so if it is all about "value" then there are certainly better Italian restaurants that offer that........

That being said, the menu is somewhat small, the portions as well and in this tough economy you might want to shop around a bit.............. M A' s certainly the finest Italian on the island but if you dont mind some noise and outstanding bang for the buck.,,,, IL Cappricio at Pineland Station is great as is Stellini (heavy on garlic)

Although not Italian, I would suggest the Sage Room if you are going to spend that kind of $.

“No longer our favorite HHI restaurant.”
Reviewed November 11, 2010

When visiting HHI, we have eaten at Michael Anthony's every year for the past 5 years, sometimes more than once on the same visit. In 2009 our experience was less than expected and in October 2010, it was downright disappointing. We dined there to celebrate my husband's birthday and all the things we loved about this restaurant seemed to have given way to basically what seems to be a poor attitude (when you become #1, you can get complacent). We were greeted with a dour, unsmiling hostess when arriving on time for our reservation. Even attempts at pleasantries did not thaw this gal out. The food was average. Considering the inconsistency in food quality (it has been fantastic in the past) and what we found now, I would not take a chance and return, considering the prices. Go to The Studio instead. Now there, you'll enjoy your meal!

“Overrated to say the least.”
Reviewed October 28, 2010

We went to this restaurant after reading so many great reviews of it. We did think it had a very nice atmosphere, and it was a relaxing place to be in. The food was in general pretty good: pasta was cooked well, salads were tasty and fresh, the osso buco special tasted good. The fish was less successful, but not bad. But nothing stood out as excellent, not even close.
Food aside, what inspired me to write this review was the clueless service staff. My goodness. Our server was all fake smiles and no action. She didn't give us bread while other tables had it, and the support staff was even more clueless than she was: One surly-looking guy came by with appetizers, dumped them in front of us as though we had done something to offend him, and didn't even give a spoon to the person who had ordered soup. When we asked for a spoon, another guy came by with it and mumbled "sorry." What the...? What kind of service is this for a pricey restaurant that supposedly has a solid reputation in that area? We were really bummed out about the service.

“Very Good but Not Excellent”
Reviewed October 24, 2010

We booked with high expectations (having read the reviews), it was not disappointing but it was not impeccable either. The restaurant acknowledged our anniversary with a nice glass of champagne and an amuse bouche (a bit of tomato on stale toast). The appetizers were very good - no complaints, my husband had the veal shank which was very nicely prepared and very tasty. My pasta and seafood entree was okay - nothing special. Overall a nice evening, very good service and the atmosphere was pleasing.

“Nouvelle Italian at its very best”
Reviewed October 22, 2010

Michael Anthony's is world class by anyone's standards. The chef's interpretations of traditional Italian food and his new ideas are extraordinary. Great wine list. Only drwback is the price, but you get what you pay for.
