“HH Island Getaway for First Timer”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 8, 2013

My wife and I settled on HH Island for this years big vacation. Sure we looked at a host of beaches along the east coast, but this one grabbed our attention given the variety of things to do. Finding a place to stay was however more challenging....our must haves included, beach access, beach view, security, and a reasonably equipped place to stay. Island Club fit the bill - I will say when we arrived it was a smooth check in. Turned out the unit we rented for the week had a few issues, but they were quickly resolved by property management. My only complaints or dissappointments were the raquetball court (which is crappy, dont even bother) and the lack of an option for at the Club to get discounts on kayaking, tours, etc...ie., you are on you own here. Would I stay here again despite my petty comments, YOU BET. For the price and seclusion it cant really be beat in my opinion. At present there is a vacant lot next to this place so beach traffic is minimized come mid week....all in all for a first time visit this place left me feeling like I got a good value for money and easy access to a wonderful beach.

Room Tip: If I had to do it all over again, I would pick a unit in bldg 1 or 4, just so I could see the sun ri...

Very nice resort. It was clean, well kept and friendly personnel. They have a lot of activities going on so you can not get bored. There was an all you can eat lunch Thursday with burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks or water. There are tennis and bocce courts, pools, water toys for the ocean and the ability to rent bikes from the Tennis office. Very nice place for families. The only negative is the internet service is very slow or as in our case non existent for a few days.

We just returned from a week at Seawatch in Unit 8301 and would not hesitate to stay here again. We loved the location on the island as well as the premier beachfront where this resort sits. We traded into a 3 bedroom and were very pleased. Our large 3rd floor unit was very comfortable and had unobstructed ocean views from every window and the 2 balconies. There were 3 bedrooms and 3 baths and loads of storage. Two of the bedrooms are very large with king size beds, en suite baths and walk-in closets. One has its own balcony. The other bedroom is a bit smaller with a full bath in the hallway and twin beds. There was a separate laundry area with new washer/dryers. The kitchen has recently been redone and the appliances were new, countertops were granite and it looked great. Flatscreen tvs in each bedroom and a larger one in the family room. The linens were nice, towels were big and soft and there were plenty to get us through the week. Some of the furnishings are dated, and they really should start replacing the wall art, lamps, carpet etc... Everything was clean and functional though and that is what we most care about.

The resort had a coffee and doughnut get together Monday morning which we skipped, but also a cookout on Thursday for the timeshare buildings, which we attended and enjoyed. The grounds here are immaculate and well-maintained. The gas grills were cleaned daily. Owners we spoke with seem to feel the new management company is doing a good job and is making the upgrades needed to maintain this resort's gold crown status.

The pools were opening the day we left, but we did notice a lot of activity on the many tennis courts. We walked the beach daily, rented bikes, took tennis clinics, ate at the many great restaurants on the island, enjoyed our balconies and really spread out and relaxed here. Yes, this resort was built in the 70s and the buildings do look like they were, but overall we were satisfied, felt we got a great trade and would stay here again.

We have stayed at many places in our 19 years of visiting HH and there are some that are more updated and larger but-----Have you ever had that feeling of "being at home"and missing it when you leave? That was our feeling of this oldie but goodie on returning home. Small,Homey,Great People. We will return.

I don't think there is anywhere on Hilton Head where you can get a spacious 3-bedroom condo with ALL the amenities for the prices offered here. The rooms are spread apart, so the kids can be quite rowdy in one room, and the adults can have a peaceful, relaxing time in the main room. The complex offers bike rentals, tennis courts, big fun pool area, a play-scape, ponds to feed ducks & turtles, 3 private walkways to the beach, in-room wifi, super-friendly staff.
Each year, the condos are improved and modernized and are very nice.
I just love it here.

Room Tip: I alway stay in a beach-front room. It is a must to have the ocean view (& the sound of waves).

Seawatch is not the only building you can stay in at the Island Club. Seawatch is a time-share building, but there are several other options available, from one-bedroom units to three-bedroom units. We have been vacationing at the Island Club for over 30 years, and we still think it is the best place to stay on Hilton Head - as long as you don't need to stay right ON the golf course. Island Club is located right on the best beach on the island, Folly Field Beach, so if you want to stroll out the door of your condo and down the short boardwalk, you will have 12 miles of pristine beach waiting for you. There are also three pools and a large spa on the property, along with a fitness center and multiple tennis courts.

In recent years we have stayed at Seawatch, Neptune and in a one-bedroom unit across from the pools (I don't recall the name of the building). Each time we appreciated the convenience of Island Club to shopping, dining, golf and recreational activities, but mostly we love the great beach! Located around mid-Island, Island Club is down the beach from The Westin, but you don't have the tourist traffic you would at Sea Pines or one of the other plantations. Rent a bike and ride all over the island, if you like, on a well-developed system of bike paths. Or ride down the beach!

Room Tip: I book through VRBO.com and have never been disappointed in the accommodations.
