We found this park by searching Trip Advisor for things to do on Hilton head Island. It was very hard to find, we ended up asking a couple if people for help, but well worth the effort!!!! (Address listed above gets you close, but actually on the wrong road, you need to turn off to the left before you reach #229 Beach Toad, turn left at the little school house). Make sure you go at Low Tide, just like everyone says! We took our 3 teenagers, who needed a change from the beach without breaking the bank and we had a great time! Our oldest is a finicky female who was very reluctant at first, but ended up ankle deep in mud with her brothers having a ball!!! Perfect family outing for the adventurous!!!! Highly recommended!!!

I arrived in Hilton Head and the first thing you want to do is check out a beach. I was originally directed to a tourist beach but when looking at a map I saw a small denotation about this park. I ditched the car, rode the bike on the bike trails right up to this park. I was not here at high tide and some entries say that this beach almost disappears which is probably why folks do not know it exists- at times it may not! When I walked to the beach there were no more than five people in sight. What more can you say about a tourist island than that?

on the front end it's ALL ABOUT THE BEACH. certainly the sand castles and taking a boogie board all the way to the shore on a wave. beyond that, there's fabulous biking trails, water sports, restaurants and shopping.

but beyond that is EXPLORATION and ADVENTURE! i have two boys, one loves the waves and the other the critters.

we purposely go to this beach during LOW TIDE. it's mucky and muddy at parts, it's shell covered in other spots, cool driftwood, wildlife, beautiful flowers and best of all, for my boy, there are CRITTERS everywhere!

i plant an umbrella in the sand, take snacks and lots to drink, sit and read and take pics of my son on his adventures. he can take all day, i'm quite content under the shade and knowing he is having a ball.

the place is a SHORT DRIVE towards the airport. it's also an EASY bike ride [everything in hilton head bike path is an easy ride].

there are stores and restaurants about two miles from the beach. my wife and friends take a couple of hours enjoying the local business and come back to get us.

this park is just off the BEATEN PATH, rarely more than about 8-9 families wandering around. it has NICE CLEAN bathroom facilities and a SHOWER to hose off, which you will definitely need to do. there is a ton of parking and great spot to build additional MEMORIES.

we call it CRITTER BEACH, and it's part of our HHI vacation routine. EXCELLENT for little kids and early teens.

We were looking for something different to do on Hilton Head, and after reading reviews, decided to check it out. It is very hard to find, and a lot of the locals don't even know about it. The first time we came was at high tide, and there was barely any beach to walk on. We came again at low tide a couple of days later, and after walking through tons of mud, succeeded it finding around 2 whelk/conch shells. Definitely a way to see the more nature part of Hilton Head. If you are planning on going to dinner afterward, I would recommend leaving time to go home and shower:)

Don't underestimate this slightly off-the-beaten path beach park. It is a great place to go for solitude and beach combing. You can walk for an hour and not encounter another person. Great way to get a taste of what the islands must have been like before the hotels and crowds.
