Kids enjoyed the climb up the lighthouse and the view from the top. There is a friendly lady on the gift shop on the top. Make sure you give her some business!! The view from the top is awesome.

This lighthouse isn't huge, but as a lover of local attractions, we didn't want to miss this. It's not expensive to climb, and there is a cute gift shop at the top. The views are,as expected, beautiful, and the area that lighthouse is in, is really cute.

Our lighthouse visit was pleasant. As you climb up the inside, there are plenty of historical informational items to view and a nice little shop at the top. The view from the top is beautiful....they also have a live cam available which is a nice touch if you want to share your experience with family/friends not there with you. Great bike paths to reach the lighthouse. Limited parking (though not a problem in March), but biking is probably the better option if you are staying locally. Nice little shops to visit and the rocking chairs at the Harbour are a nice touch for those who would like to rest and take in the view. A must visit if coming to HHI.

Tip: If you are not staying in the Sea Pines or Harbour Town area, you are requires to pay a $5 daily fee for all visitors entering the preserve area. To make the most out of your $5 I would do the following things:

1. Climb up to the top of the lighthouse learning about the area on the way up.
2. Walk the hour or two our self guided walking tour through the peaceful and pleasant preserves. Free parking and entry...open sunrise to sunset. There are biking paths too. Parking will be on your left hand side look for the "Sea Pine Preserves" sign.
3. While visiting the light house, take a stroll through the shops of Harbour Town. There is another section near the beach for more shops. There are a few souvenir shops next to the lighthouse too.
4. Review any restaurants in these areas to see if there are any you would like to try before making another trip and paying $5 for another entry.
5. Drive around this portion of the island and head to the beach for a stroll or dip in the water.

It costs 3 or 4 dollars to climb stairs to top.

There are 114 steps to climb. It seems like a lot but if you pause to read the plaques and history on the way up, you will forget you are burning calories.

Harbour Town is one of the places I visit when I stay in Hilton Head SC.
This is my second year vacationg in HH, and Harbourtown and I visit Harbourtown every second day. I love the ambiance of the place, the picturesque shore with all of the luxury boats/yatchs. I climb to the very top of the lighthouse to get an overview of the place and it's always breathtaking. The rocking chairs beckon you to sit, relax and rest your tired feet. There's a variety of kiosks and restaurants to satisfy all budgets and tastes. This year I decided to go on the Vagabond sunset dinner cruise, and I loved it. What made it more special was the staff on board. Especially, a young man named Joel August, he was pleasant, curtious, respectful and he had a good sense of humour. He made the occasion more pleasant and memorable by just being there and being himself. Thank you Joel.
