“Interesting, relaxing and informative.”
Reviewed May 21, 2014

We visited here with our 2 boys (9 and 7 yrs). They were supposed to have a plankton study, but it turns out that the Naturalist was not feeling well, so it was cancelled without notification. The Discovery building itself is interesting, with some informative signs and pictures, but not a lot of artifacts. There was a room with a turtle and some things for kids. Had a small, but nice gift shop. The true value of the site is the surrounding grounds with a very pleasant, well marked trail including boardwalks over the marshes and Live Oak oasis with interpretive signs, a butterfly house, cemetery, barn and 2 Marsh horses. Had a number of botanical displays with carnivorous plants, native plants, historical plants, lots of flowers and beautiful trees. We really enjoyed our visits here.

“good find”
Reviewed May 20, 2014

just happened to have time prior to our airline departure to explore this gem and, to our surpise, it's free with request of a donation, but the grounds and walkways are beautiful and the indoor elements are educational and interesting. Even a room for kids to touch and explore. Would recommend when you need a break from the sun!

“Great programs for children & adults”

If you want to learn more about Hilton Head's unique Eco system. This is the place to do it. Located on an old cotton plantation, there are varied gardens, a butterfly enclosure & an interesting variety of learning opportunities not to be missed.

Inside there is info to read that is interesting. The walk through the trees is relaxing and beautiful. The roses weren't in bloom so that was a bummer..

“Butterflies are back!”
Reviewed May 2, 2014

Spring seems to have finally sprung on Hilton Head Island. Sea turtle & beach patrol and the butterflies are back in business! Some large scale sculptures still scattered through the grounds, and we can't get enough of those beautiful oak trees and Spanish moss.
Great visit, wonderful friendly staff, fun for the whole family, and free! We really enjoyed it!
