Did the self tour and everything was signed or labeled with lots of information. It is 0.9 miles with shells on the walk way. A family was easily pushing a baby stroller.

We visited the museum and the walking trail when it was low tide. We found it very interesting watching the little fiddler crabs in the mud of the salt marsh. We were fortunate to have a marine biologist there who told us what to watch for and explained how the little mud balls were pushed out while the crabs were tunnelling. The movie and display on Mitchellville were very interesting and made us plan to return for a Gullah tour. There are several other programs on the agenda that we hope to attend. The women in the information center were very welcoming and informative. Thank you.

We attended a lecture about South Carolina whales that we really enjoyed. It was so popular that they needed a 2nd session. Very informative presentation by interesting professionals. One of several lectures that the Museum put on during our stay. Support the Museum!! It is a great asset to the Hilton Head Island Community.

My wife and I had the chance to see a few aspects of the Coastal Discovery Museum on Hilton Head Island during a visit to the area we made in March 2014. We experienced the Museum as a very interesting place to go on a rainy day because of the engaging exhibits in the “Discovery House”. We found it to be the point of departure for the Gullah Heritage Tour, which we attended. We found it hosted a very interesting, engaging guided tour of an adjoining salt marsh on a sunny morning – one of many different activities hosted by the Museum, depending on the season. We also discovered that the grounds of the Museum are as enjoyable to experience as the exhibits in the Museum itself. It is well done, a great place for newcomers to the area, and even natives would find it worth spending a few hours at least a couple times per year.

Even on a rainy day, we learned a lot about an area we love to visit. Go see it! The history of Hilton Head is important, to know the history of where you are golfing, staying, beaching and visiting. A very welcoming staff that answers all your questions.
