“Great way to spend a half day”

The walking tour was very interesting, a lot of info on local flora and fauna at your own pace. The interior displays were also of interest. Good for the whole family.

“Interesting museum and nice place for a walk”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 9, 2013

The museum is very interesting and taking the almost 1 mile, well marked and maintained walk is a great way to relax. Stop along the boardwalks and watch for osprey. You may also take several tours and watch artist at work.

“Great stop with good information”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

I liked this museum. We learned a lot from walking around inside. We picked up some books related to the area. We viewed the art display - beautiful - by local artists. The staff was very kind and helpful. They gave us a brochure to take a self-guided walking tour around the property. Very interesting. Great views along the marsh.

There was a Gullah man weaving AMAZING baskets on the grounds. Beautiful baskets but expensive. I am sure the price is worth all the work that goes into a basket. It's quite a skill.

The Coastal Discovery Museum is a great stop. A must do! They have some special programs on their schedule, none of which fit into our schedule. Stop their first when you arrive on the island, so that you can plan to participate in some of the special offerings there.

“Nice walks, very educational!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

This museum is more than just a building. It's a former plantation on the tidal creek banks, and has all kinds of interpreted walking trails. You can walk on a boardwalk way into the creek, and see lots of oysters, birds, and tracks left by local wildlife. The house itself is really neat (check out the pantry and kitchen!) and has great information on Hilton Head history and the Gullah people. There's a really nice gift shop, too. This is a must-stop for us every year, now. See you next year!
