My husband and I had an amazing experience at the Marriott on Hilton Head, SC! Kuddos to Ian at the front desk who went above and beyond to place us in a great room on the 8th floor that overlooked the ocean! We couldn't have been more pleased with this hotel stay. It is a beautiful hotel with wonderful amenities! We also noticed that every employee of the hotel was very friendly and spoke to us, were always smiling, did everything possible to make our stay there as good as possible! The beds and the rooms are very comfortable. We couldn't have been more pleased with our stay there.

We actually own at this resort but this is the first time we have stayed here. (We have stayed at Marriott's Monarch and Harbour Point over the past 8 years.) The resort is on a beautiful stretch of sandy, semi-private beach, which garners a five-star rating from me. The one thing that was a bit disappointing was the villa itself. I am a picky Marriott owner, and I have stayed at MANY Marriott Vacation Club resorts across the U.S., so our unit just wasn't quite up to par with the others. It had a damp, musty smell, which I realize is due to the fact that this property is right on the ocean and visitors probably often enter the villa with wet, sandy feet. So, I do commend the staff for thoroughly cleaning the unit (we saw no traces of sand). However, there should be a way to combat the smell, even if it means putting in tile (instead of carpet) during the next update. In addition, the appliances were old (again, not Marriott's highest standard), the showers didn't fully drain, the towels were a bit dingy. So, that's why I can't rate our stay a 5. However, there were still many pluses: The activities were high energy and fun, though I do wish there were more children's activities. (I'm guessing our October visit, when most kids are in school, had something to do with the programming.) The cost for bike rental ($10 p/day, $30 p/week) was reasonable, and the proximity to Sea Pines made bike riding a wonderful activity for our family. The units have a full-size washer and dryer, which provided great convenience for a family of six. The grounds were beautiful--a wonderful mix of natural landscapes (which is the appeal of Hilton Head) and resort amenities (several pools and hot tubs, porch swings, fire pits, etc.). In addition, the units were nicely sound-proofed. We had people above and below us (we were on the 3rd floor), yet we could never hear anyone. We will definitely stay again because the less-than-perfect villa is trumped by the perfect location on Hilton Head island.

This is a beautiful resort. They have five outdoor pools, hot tubs and of course pool Bar Jim's . That is a can't miss. The beach access is on site and the other amenities are spot on. We will be coming back.

Room Tip: Ocean view should be requested

Wonderful location, clean rooms, and very comfortable sleeping. Right on the beach and not too close to the busy sections. Rooms are spacious and lovely. Would only suggest that the resort cut down on the number of "activities" throughout the day - 'Less is More" - might better use staff time and be more appealing if there were fewer and if there were more that catered only to adults. The best is the wine and cheese by the pool on Monday with a guitarist / singer - too bad that is not done every night. The worst is the "breakfast" by the pool on Mondays - which serve bagels and pastries that are so stale they could be tennis balls and the staff hawks with hard sell. Very unpleasant. But the hotel is very wonderful other than the hard sell and activities push.

This has been another great visit to Marriott's Grande Ocean Resort. Two couples in a two bedroom condo that had everything you could need. The pools are great as are the hot tubs. Our condo was top floor over top of Jim's Bar facing the ocean and it was beautiful especially in the morning when the sun came up. Everything was clean that we came in contact with and the staff there are all very friendly and helpful. We rented bikes for the entire week and rode them every day all around the island, sometimes on the bike path and sometimes on the ocean. We ate out all of our meals and had great food every meal.

Room Tip: Higher floors have better ocean view.

It was just the 2 of us in the 2 bdrm condo. We were disappointed that we were giving a second floor room which overlooked the 'nature pool'. We are owners in St. Thomas and had traded the week, but the speech that we received was that the higher floors were for the resort owners. The condo had everything that you need to cook breakfast everyday - we mostly ate dinner out, but there are grills available for a nice steak dinner. Another odd thing is that the resort does not have chairs and umbrellas for guests. We knew this ahead of time, and brought our own - but it is something that visitors should know ahead of time. The pools are nice - people do reserve them even though there are signs advising not to. We went to Pool Bar Jims - not really impressed with the frozen drinks, but the mojitos were very good - although pricey.

We rented bikes from the resort - went out to the lighthouse, and down to Coligny. Some of the restaurants we ate at - Vine, Eat!, Lowcountry Backyard, Skull Creek Boathouse, and One Hot Mama's. Highlights were the shrimp and grits at Lowcountry Backyard, and fried chicken from One Hot Mama's - although none of the meals we ate could be considered bad. The concierge who contacted us prior to arrival got us reservations at Eat and Skull Creek.

The jelly fish were out the week we were there - mid August - the lifeguards had warning flags out, and had vinegar spray bottles. Both of us were stung on the first day, but they got better as the week went on. The location on the beach is nice - although there is public access to the beach - there is not as much parking available as at Coligny, so it is not as crowded.

All in all a relaxing vacation - we won't return - the drive from PA was a little overwhelming, and unless airfares come down - it's too pricey with factoring a rental car, and renting beach equipment as well just doesn't make sense.

We love this place. This is our second year and we already made our accommodations to come back next year. We are vacation club owners and enjoy staying at the Vacation Club properties.

As a single couple with no children, we love staying here during the off season. We aren't party animals and enjoy the quiet. The other residents are either grandparents or couples with small children. There haven't been any loud parties or crazy things going on at this hotel either year we've stayed.

The hotel is on the beach and if you get an ocean view room, the views are amazing. Lots of pools and hot tubs. We don't get into the events or activities but they do offer several throughout the week.

The front desk left a basket with wine and cheese for us in our hotel room because it is our anniversary.

My only complaint is there aren't any gluten free or allergen friendly snacks in the Marketplace. This is true for all the Marriott locations. They just aren't allergen friendly but we are aware of it and plan for that during our stay.

Wifi is spotty and so is cell service but I don't really mind when I'm listening to the ocean in the background of the balcony.

Room Tip: Ocean view is just as good as ocean front.
