“Spring break at Hilton Head Island”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 19, 2014 via mobile

Spent a week at the Omni with my husband and 9 year old daughter. The heated pool and jacuzzi came in very handy on some colder rainy days. The outside of this hotel, fire pit, grounds, pools...are really nice and very in tune with the natural beauty of the island. Breakfast was awesome. Rooms are large but a little tired.

we stayed here from sunday to Thursday. the weather was not good and unfortunately the hotel really didn't have any kind of facility for rainy days. the room was ok. the pool area was nice. the beach area was nice. the restaurant hh prime was very good. I wouldn't rush back but I didn't hate it either.

This is a very nice hotel. it is right on the beach, with excellent beach access and views from many of the rooms. There are two large pools, two hot tubs, several fire pits and other outdoor activities. very nice. every room has a large balcony with table and chairs.

the rooms are large and well appointed, with a modest kitchen. the rooms were very clean, and seemed to be well maintained. Very comfortable bed.

Getting from the parking lot to the hotel room can be tricky. there are lots of stairs, which make it difficult, BUT, there is a ramp from the parking lot to the hotel entrance, it is just not located near the stairs, you have to hunt for it. also, if you drop your bags at the entrance, bell services will take them to your room at no charge (though you should give a tip).

HH Prime restaurant is very good. excellent steak and seafood.

only complaint is that there is no place on property to sit back, relax and have a cocktail after dinner.

There is a shuttle available to many parts of the island (not all) that is very convenient. Especially for travel to and from Shelter Cove dining and shopping district.

Room Tip: the ocean view rooms are very nice, nice view in the morning.

The Omni hotel in Chicago is fantastic. I assumed this would be as good or not better given that it is a vacation destination. The hotel needs to be renovated. The only good thing was the room was very spacious.

My family and I have been staying at this property for 24 years, first as the Mariners, then the Hilton and now Omni. We love the casual family aptmosphere. It is on the beach and very close to great restaurants. The 3 pools are very nice, I especially enjoy the 18 and older pool but when our girls were little we had lots of fun at the family pool also. The large rooms with kitchenette and balcony are terrific. The location in Palmetto Dunes could not be better, you can bike to almost anywhere you want to go on the Island. We stayed here again last week and had a wonderful spring break. The very nice young woman at checkin made sure we had the room location we wanted. We immediately headed for the Buoy Bar at the pool to see our old friends Mary and Carl. They always make sure your food and drink needs are taken care of at the pool or beach. It was good to see them again, Mary has been our bartender at the Buoy Bar for many years and we look forward to seeing them each visit, great ambassadors for Omni.
We bring our own bikes and head out in the mornings to explore the Island and make it back in time for lunch and then to the pool and beach.
We usually ask for a courtyard view and enjoy sitting on the balcony in the early evening before dinner with a cold drink deciding on where to go for dinner.
Our family has countless happy memories from here and we hope to be able to come back to make many more in the years to come.

When all is said and done, we were very glad we stayed at the Omni.
We had reserved an ocean view (not ocean front) room, and the website made it very clear that it would be an angled view. As it turned out, from our balcony we could as much parking lot as ocean. However, we could turn the chairs toward the ocean, so after the initial disappointment, the view was OK, and hey, it was what we paid for.
What we also got for what we paid was a very large room with a mini-kitchen (mini-refrigerator, sink, microwave, utensils), dining area with table, and an additional seating area near the sliding glass door. And the bathroom had two sinks. We thought the room was a very good value.
We felt that the cost or renting beach chairs and bicycles was very reasonable compared to what we paid at Florida hotels not too long ago.
The staff was very friendly, particularly the people at the beach chair and bicycle rental building. In addition, the concierge was able to make dinner reservations for us at a restaurant that usually doesn't take reservations and to put us on a wait list at another restaurant so we got a table faster there as well. I happened to mention that we would be celebrating my birthday at one of the restaurants, and that day the concierge had lemonade and pound cake delivered to our room.
We liked that there was an adults-only pool. And the main swimming pool has a bar with a nice selection plus a bargain drink of the day.
We also were impressed by the number of small outdoor seating areas, some with fire pits. They were very popular.
The only meal we ate in the hotel was a breakfast buffet which was fine. In addition to the main restaurant, there is a "market" which serves some casual food, like pizza, and has a seating area. It was frequented by families with small children.

Room Tip: As advertised, the oceanview rooms have angled views which may include as much parking lot as ocean...

The hotel experience was very positive. Unfortunately, the hotel adds additional fees which which their confirmation EXPLICITLY states will not be added. Expect to pay more than the rates at which reservations are made.
