Hilton Head Marriott Resort & Spa
Ranked #13 of 28 Hotels in Hilton Head
Reviewed September 12, 2008

I always refer to Trip Advisor, but this is my first posting. This hotel deserves recognition for its outstanding service and accomodatioins. Our friend who frequently travels recommended this hotel to us above the others on the island. My husband and I just returned from spending our honeymoon there. We stayed in oceanview room #579. We had a very nice view of the pool area and ocean from our balcony. The room was spacious and clean. The king bed comforter reminded me of the Westin's "heavenly" bed. My husband found the bedspread a little hot, but he liked the bed. Every member of the hotel was exceptionally friendly and helpful. They seemed happy to assit us with all our needs. We ate poolside a few days. The hotel food is a little pricey, (room service) but good. There is a nice indoor pool, 3 outdoor pools. The pool areas are well maintained. You can put up a flag for a waiter to come to your chair. The spa is also very nice. They give you a robe and slippers and send you to a relaxation room to wait for your service. The spa has a great steam room and sauna. Overall, this hotel is a great place to try. We heard several guests mention it wasn't their first stay there and that they reconized the staff members from their last visit. Overall, A!

We just arrived home from a wonderful three night stay at the Marriott Resort and Spa in Hilton Head Island. We enjoyed every bit of our time spent at the hotel. The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Although we didn't need it, we noticed that the couch was also a pull out if anyone needs that specific accommodation. The "cooler/mini fridge" did not work in the room but we were ok with that, we just kept soda and water in our cooler and filled it with ice from the ice machine. The front desk clerk upon check-in was very friendly. We self-parked which was a fee of $10.70 per night, the parking lot was well lit and had plenty of spaces. The pool and whirl pool areas were clean and the staff very attentive; there were plenty of chairs to choose from. The beach was conveniently located right outside the pool area. There were chairs and umbrellas to choose from or you can bring you own to the beach and the hotel had plenty of towels for our use. We did not use any of the restaurants at the hotel so i can not comment on them. There was a Piggly Wiggly grocery store very close to the hotel where we stocked up on snacks. We absolutely loved this resort and will be back!

It was very nice. The spa was fun and relaxing. Got a facial and it was great. Conroy's was good. Breakfast Buffet at the Cafe was yummy. The Ocean Blu was good food but bad. I ordered a VIRGIN Mango Daquri, came out 10 mintutes later and I drank the whole thing. After like 2 mins. after I drank it, I said " Mom, I dont feel well. Can I jump in the pool?" And she said yes and I did but then they ordered me another and all of them ( mom, dad, mom's friend and my bro) tasted it and it had rum in BOTH of them so I had to lay down and i fell asleep. So I was all woozy and kawampaty the rest of the day. Anyway, Everything was great and their staff other than the Ocean Blu staff was polite, sweet and always was happy and on the job.

Upon arriving at the Hilton Head Airport (KHXD), our taxi promptly whisked us to the Marriott Resort (Hotel) 3 miles away. We checked in early and Brian, our front desk person, was very accommodating. I had reserved an "island view" but after much clicking, Brian put us in and ocean view (not ocean front). Pays to be nice. Good enough. Only one minor irritation: it was the third room key that actually worked. Overall, the service was excellent in all areas. I guess I expected less from such a large resort. (The cab driver told us Marriott has 13 properties on the island. This one is the "hotel." It doesn't say anything on the property about "Hotel & Spa." Says "Marriott Resort, Golf," etc. but no Spa signs.) The room was on the side on the third floor yet angled to face the beach. Great view of the beach. Was kinda glad we didn't get an ocean front room. They all face the large pool/bar areas, which are - I imagine - quite noisy if you want to take a nap during the day. A day on the beach with 2 chairs and an umbrella will cost you $18 plus tip. Great beach, warm water at the time (85 degrees). The bar "Liquid" is just above the beach and service was good. Quite easy to charge everything to the room. As far as dining at the Resort, we tried Conroy's but it was a busy "reservations only" night so we ate "bar food" outside at Ocean Blue which overlooks the ocean as it's name implies. Quite nice and the food was pretty good. The resort has a "grocery store" if you want to save money on water, sodas, etc. The pools were clean, numerous, and large. The towel lady has been there 30 plus years and was very nice. Again, starting with Brian, every employee was very nice (including the gal who evicted us from our beach chairs in the late afternoon). For a family resort, the employee attitudes were remarkable considering all of the yelling, screaming kids around. (Not that bad, just noticable. There are many ways to get away from "kiddie noise" at this Resort.) The room was clean and the king bed was plush. The room had a shower only, which I thought was odd (not that we wanted to take a bath), and the glass door opens and can possibly hit the bathroom door, so we had to be mindful. As far as transportation on the island, there are many miles of bike trails and there's a shuttle to the local mall. Many people talked about the constant insect infestation on the island, but we didn't see any evidence of this either at the Resort or anywhere else on the Island. In conclusion, this is one of the best "something for everybody" type resorts I've stayed at. They are able to pull it off with little compromise. When we go back to Hilton Head, we'll stay there again. The "first impression" was good enough so that I won't spend the time or energy seeing if there are other places we might want to stay at on the Island.

I stayed here for a conference, so i did not select this property. However, I would not recommend this to anyone for a vacation. The rooms are quite small There is no refridgerator, no micro. There are nice robes, but my room didn't even have a hook in the bathroom to hang the robe! Soeaking of bathroom, the shower (nice and roomy) was dirty and smelled like mildewed mops. Our view was of the rooftop of the indoor pool. COMPLETELY obstructed view. Now I know bad views are "luck of the draw', but you would think hotels would let you know and perhaps offer a discount for such a room. The cafe lunch was adequate but pricey, service was slow slow slow. The pool bar was closed up tight at 7:30 (that's what time we went, not sure when it actually closed) There are nicer properties on HH for same $$. Why would you stay here?

We spent two nights at this hotel after doing a short notice bidding on a resort room. We were able to get this room for just under half the listed web price.

Upon check in we were greeted by very friendly staff and were told there were only rooms available with two double beds so they were unable to supply us with a king. On our way up to the room the fire alarm went off and we ignored it. It shut off around 5 minutes later. Although our room was clean, it overlooked the 3rd floor roof and the balcony was useless. Luckily we were only on the third floor of this hotel because the elevators are some of the slowest I've ever seen, and then when they do arrive they are usually full.

The beach was beautiful and the pool was nice, although very crowded. We ate breakfast at the hotel both days which was pricey but convenient. We wanted to walk to restaurants instead of drive, but there isn't very much in the area. We did eat at Alexander's which is just down the street. It was pricey, but good. The other evening we went to the Old Oyster Factory which was good but a bit of a madhouse. We got there early and sat at the bar so we didn't have to wait an hour for service.

On our second evening there the fire alarm went off again for several minutes. We received a note the next morning saying a child had pulled it.

Overall it was a nice hotel with the typical resort feel and pricing that nickel and dimes you with parking/internet charges, but it was great to be at the beach and the price for us was right. I would stay there again, but the price needs to be right.

We used Marriott points to stay there and they upgraded us from resort view to Ocean front without us even asking.

Great view from ocean front. Lobby and pool recently remodeled. But rooms were a little stale. Not bad but not what we usually have for Marriott. But the location is great and with indoor pool and extremely helpfule staff, we had a wonderful visit.

the outdoor bar offers basic sandwiches, which is handy for those long days in the sun.

Very family oriented, they had a list of activities happnening for the day right by the elevators.

the odd thing was with the 'cooler' refridgerator. it stated it was a cooler and that we had to put ice in it to keep things cool. kind of annoying to have to replace the ice a twice a day.

but all in all, we would go back.
