Ela's is right on the water. The restaurant is very pretty. They have the best eggs Benedict on the island. The breakfast burrito and crab omelette are also delicious. Skip the cinnamon rolls, they were disappointing and the waitress took them off our bill. Cant go wrong with Mimosas, champagne or bloody Mary's for $4 each.

I have also come here for dinner. If you can get a seat by the window on Tuesdays during the high season you will have a perfect view for the fireworks.

Enjoy!!

It was busy for a Wednesday night, but our waiter kept up just fine and had a good sense of humor, too. Just attentive enough without being a nuisance and, although he was fairly new, like most waiters on Hilton Head at the start of the tourist season, he knew the menu well (i.e., he knew what was cooking in the kitchen) and answered all our questions. Which was good, because some of the preparations are a bit out of the ordinary, such as the beet salad, which is definitely worth trying as is a tasty hummis appetizer. The duck entree was excellent as well. So although there were steaks on the menu, this is more than a meat-and-potatoes place. The menu has some neat beers on it and a small but solid choice of wines. Desserts are great. The chocolate mousse was good, and the chocolate mousse cake was terrific. The only disappointment was the calamari, another example of an unusual preparation. It was rolled into tubular pinky-finger sized portions, dredged in bread crumbs and broiled (I think) not deep fried. If you like the tentacles and a little crunch to your calamari, you can pass on this version. Slightly pricey perhaps butworth a try. Great views of the water and Shelter Cove Harbour.

With reservations, we sat outside on the deck, overlooking the harbor. They had heaters outside but some of the areas weren't covered with heat well. Slow service, but others have commented on that. There was a special request with one of the dishes that one wanted to order, but the waiter rebuffed the request, making the person just order appetizers for dinner. Maybe worth it if the service gets better.

We have dined at Ela's several times and the view and setting is outstanding. The dinner offerings were excellent and service was good. They had entertainment the evening we were there which made for a nice experience.

The portions were stingy. The service inexcusably slow. They were out of calamari. When we asked the waiter for bread he said it was still in the oven. That fast answer was the only speedy thing about the place. When were finished with the entree nobody asked whether we wanted desert or coffee. We had to find a bus boy to ask for our bill. When we got the bill nobody came to take our credit card so we went to the front where it was processed. Smallest piece of swordfish I was ever served. The midget crab cake was $14. If you want to eat here make sure you have dinner before you go. Not everything was bad about Ela's. Their ad in the restaurant guide was beautiful. March 22 2014.
