“Super Service, Fabulous Meal, Relaxing environment”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

We enjoyed our second meal at this restaurant, and it was better than the first. I'd like to offer a few tips to maximize your experience at the Lowcountry Backyard:

1. Be patient! If you don't arrive by 5pm, you will have a little wait. Your wait may be 10 minutes, or if you arrive a little later, it may be an hour or more. It's worth it! This year, the restaurant was offering to send a text message when your table was getting close to being available. This is priceless if you have little ones to entertain (or not-so-little ones) and you want to wait in the car or walk around.

2. Browse the menu ahead of time and let yourself drool. Yes, I said drool. Some of these dishes are so fantastic that you will want to buy two and take one home for the next day.

3. Try something new! They offer cocktails that have moonshine in them, and they are wonderful! When was the last time you had meatloaf made with potato chips? Yum yum yum!

4. Relax! If you are able to score a table outside near the live entertainment, just go with the flow and relax. The wait staff is super efficient, and you will be tempted to pick up your bowl of grits and slurp it until its gone, but I beg you to slow down and savor the environment.

5. Lastly, save room for dessert! I know, this may be tough, especially if you slurp down your shrimp and grits, but the desserts are to die for as well.

At our table of four, we had three helpings of the superb shrimp and grits, and one of the specials - blackened swordfish, overtop of coconut rice, with a pineapple salsa. For dessert, three helpings of banana pudding (served in a big mason jar), and one slice of key lime pie. Mmmm, mmm, mmm.

Bon appetite!

“Amazing!”
Reviewed August 26, 2013 via mobile

Hands down the best restaurant we ate at on Hilton Head Island. We went for Sunday brunch our first morning of vacation. Apparently, the wait can be over an hour in the evening so brunch is a good option. We had no wait at all. The shrimp and grits were absolutely amazing. My daughter got the bananas foster French toast and that was also very good. Looking forward to our next trip to HHI so we can return to A Lowcountry Backyard!

“Best Restaurant in Hilton Head”
Reviewed August 25, 2013

It's a little hard to find (we passed it even thought we were following Google Maps) and the wait can be rather long....but it's well worth it!!! Had to try to shrimp & grits and it was one of the best meals ever!! The service is excellent and the price is just right.

“Hard to find, easy to eat”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

Its side faces the street, and the sign on the street says "Back yard", so you might pass it (like I did) before you find it.

Short story: excellent shrimp and grits, fried flounder, and banana pudding. Worth trying if you want to get the Hilton Head experience. Even at 1:30 p.m., we had to wait for 20 minutes (waited it out at the Delishee Yogurt place across the parking lot. Lowcountry Backyard will page you on your phone when your table is ready)

Not a fancy place, more homey and cozy.

“Nice Alternative For Lunch”
Reviewed August 23, 2013

Nice place even if the menu is rather limited. The burger is fantastic and the soups good. Salad entrees are extremely limited and not very good. Wish they had any sides besides fries and chips; not even coleslaw is available.
However it is a pleasant place to sit outside and watch the chameleons run up the trees.
