We ate at Lowcountry Backyard Wednesday night. In spite of getting there at 530, there was about an hour wait as there were two large groups already seated and this pretty much occupied the inside dining area. We sat at one of the high tops near the bar and had the crab dip which was a great way to bide the wait time! For our mains, once we were seated in the main dining area, we had the shrimp BLT salad ( with fried green tomatoes that were excellent!) and the shrimp and grits- both really good! Couldn't resist splitting a banana pudding for dessert!
By the time we left (about 8pm) there was not a long wait.
Definitely will return next trip to Hilton Head!

We went for lunch, and there was no wait because we were there when it opened at 11am. The dining room is small so i understand why some people experience long waits. also, you wait outside for a table so take that into consideration during extremely hot or rainy weather.

The prices average around $11 per meal. I had the shrimp and grits which were very good but I wish they had a bit more flavor. My son had a grilled chicken breast sandwich with BBQ sauce and pimento cheese on top that was AH-mazing! Would go back just for that. Husband had fried chicken which was a breast and leg for $12, nothing to write home about. He had grits and cornbread for the sides and they were very good. My kids had the macaroni and cheese and said it was very good. The sweet tea was very very good too!

Tried to go back several days later around noon but it was raining so the outside eating area was closed which made only the inside dining available for seating which translated into a 45 minute wait so we left. We will go back on our next trip to HH.

Four of us ate at Backyard and nary a complaint. There is a cornhole board and small mini-putt to keep you busy if there is a wait. Outside seating is available but we waited on indoors due to lowcountry heat at the time we visited.

The crab dip served with chips and pita points was delicious. Entrees we enjoyed included shrimp and grits, Charleston Special (catch of the day on grit cakes), Backyard reunion (BBQ sampler) and crab cakes. We split a banana pudding for dessert. All left with boxes of leftovers which were just as tasty the next day.

A touch on the pricey side but still no complaints. Good service as well.

The food and service was great! We were a little put off by the fact that the restaurant wasn't very busy as it was toward the end of the night and the bartender was only allowed to serve us drinks and apps at the table in the bar. However, when we did get a table the food and service was great and we will definitely visit again.

This was my first time to A Lowcountry Backyard and I plan to return every time I visit HHI. Lots of character and the ambiance was great. The food was spectacular! My wife had the shrimp and grits which was the best either of us have ever had. I had the Mahi-Mahi special which was blackened with a fruit salsa served over coconut rice.....simply wonderful. Our three young girls each enjoyed a grilled cheese with wonderful side dishes. We can't wait to return next year.

The only "issues" I had revolved around service. When we arrived (around 7:45pm) we checked in with the hostess and requested to sit outside in their great outdoor seating area (did I mention we have three young girls?). The hostess was quick to tell us that seating was first come, first serve. Understood. We were then told it would be an hour and a half wait. Keep in my mind the restaurant hours are 4:30 to 9:00. An hour and a half wait would have resulted in us not getting a table until after 9:00. When my wife questioned the wait compared to the number of people that appeared to be waiting, we were told that people often put their name in, leave, and return when they receive a text advising that their table is ready?? Regardless, we put our name down and began our wait knowing it wouldn't take as long as we were told. Our total wait time equaled 20 minutes. I can't help but think the exaggerated wait time we were told was a scare tactic to get us to leave (remember...we have three young girls). When we were seated, we were given a table inside although there appeared to be three or four tables outside that were available. Once seated, we received prompt service. However, we seemed to be a real inconvenience for our server. You could tell from the beginning that her mission was to get us served and get us out of there. We were definitely made to feel we may not have been quite as welcome as we would have been without our kids (and for those wondering, our kids are very well behaved and when they are not, we remove them from the table immediately to deal with whatever the issue may be so as to not be a distraction to others around us).

Having said all of that, we will definitely return next year for another wonderful meal (maybe more than once) as the food is excellent.
