“Awesome day 9-20-2013”
Reviewed September 20, 2013 via mobile

We went out today with Captain Corey. We had a great time. He put us in a good spot! We caught five red fish and two baby sharks. The red fish weighed 20, 22, 23, 28, and 13 pounds. It was fun reeling those big fish in. We will definitely do this again next year. Thanks to Cory for the awesome experience.

“Off the Hook Fishing”
Reviewed September 18, 2013

My son and I went out with Brian on Monday, Sept 9, the trip was worth more than the cost, best fishing experience we've had. Brian is very knowledgeable and worked hard to get us on the fish. I will set up another charter soon!

“What a trip”
Reviewed September 15, 2013

This is my third year with Captain Brian Vaughn, and each year it gets better and better. Earlier in the week we had an afternoon trip set. CBV gave me a call to say that the weather is getting rough and the fishing was going to be spotty. This speaks to the integrity of Brian. He could have taken our money and taken us out for a lousy experience, he didnt and we rescheduled for later in the week.

What we got was an epic day on the water, hooking into some great schools of Amberjack. All three of us were able to have some of the best fishing ever. Brian is a professional and does Hilton Head Island proud. He will do his best to put on you fish. You just have to remember that its called fishing not catching. Brian is willing to answer any and all questions and share info, be it on what to use or where to go for onshore fishing or where to get the best Italian on the island.

If we are lucky enough to return to the island in 2014 I will be making the call to Off The Hook to schedule a trip with the best Charter Boat Captain in HHI.

All the best to you and your family Captain.

“A truly gifted angler”
Reviewed September 9, 2013

This has to be the best charter service on the planet. The end of the story says it all. We had been fishing in an area near several other charter boats, all of whom seemed to know and like each other. As we were wrapping up our trip, Captain Brian floated us over to the nearest boat to say goodbye to that Captain and offer him our left over bait (a gesture that tells you what kind of guy he is). Naturally the other Captain was grateful, but what he said was priceless. Just as we pulled up next to him, the guy got a radio call from another boat...asking about fishing conditions or something. The Captain started that conversation with "Yeah, I'm just out here watching the Brian Vaughn show and now the clients on my boat are about to do a mutiny thanks to watching the nearby action on Brian Vaughn's boat."

I thought that was hilarious. And it was probably true. While all the other boats were having a nice time catching a few fish here and there, they witnessed, from a distance, what happens when you fish with the best...Off the Hook. We were out there less than three hours because I had other obligations that afternoon. In that brief time, Captain Brian put me on three of the largest reds I've ever caught. There must have been five bonnet-head sharks, the largest stingray I've ever seen...then...wait for it....wait for it. He put me on a 120 lb Tarpon. Bringing that monster into the boat was the experience of a lifetime.

You can't do better than that. And Captain Brian was as nice, humble and gracious as he is talented. You won't be sorry with this guy.

“Fantastic! A tarpon, 4 reds and plenty of sharks all before noon!”
Reviewed September 4, 2013

This was our second time to hit the water with Captain Brian - we had a morning trip last Labor Day and did the same this year. The only thing different is that we were all a year older and the catch got better! Last year we caught a mixed bag of sharks and sting rays and still had a ball, but this year was even more amazing because we were able to catch a tarpon, 4 reds, and lots of sharks (not exciting for real fishermen, I know, but the kids LOVE it).

You leave from a boat landing near the cross island bridge so it is very convenient for folks all over the island but especially those staying near Shipyard, Coligny, or Palmetto Dunes. There is free parking and a few port-o-lets, too, in case of emergency (which with kids, it seems to always be).

Captain Brian is a great guy, keeps a very clean boat, and has patience to spare with the little ones. Fishing is tricky business - like the old cliche, it is not called "catching" and you truly never know what you are going to get. On our first trip, we searched a long time for bait fish, but this time we got lucky and found them within the first few minutes of the trip. On the first trip, we tried fishing in multiple locations -- but on this last one, we started catching within the first few minutes of tossing the lines out and never left the area until it was time to go in. We like Capt. Brian and don't expect miracles - just good family fun and hopefully some fish. He has not disappointed us!

We talk to families all the time who go to Hilton Head every year but they have never ventured out past the beach or perhaps a dolphin tour. Salt water fishing is such a fun family experience and heck, usually you see dolphins along the way, too (we did, on both trips). Capt. Brian makes it super easy for you, even if fishing has never been your thing-- just show up. Pack some snacks and drinks (he has ice in a cooler available for you), slather on some sunscreen and you are good to go -- you will make memories to last a lifetime. We highly recommend him for fun on the water in Hilton Head.
