“Great Vacation”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 8, 2014

A roomy and clean unit. Had everything we needed including washer/dryer. Beds were comfortable. Convenient to everything. You do need a car but there was a great walking area around the complex. This area had stores and places to eat.

The staff was very friendly and helpful.

After visiting HH since '77 and owning 3 homes there, we have found the perfect place to rent in the middle of everything, with no ownership hassles or high costs. Just finished 2 weeks for the fourth time in the last four yrs. Shelter Cove with access to all Palmetto Dunes has to offer is a great place to spend your time on HH. Great accomodations and a very fair price. We give it our highest recommendation!

Room Tip: Great 2 bedroom units with plenty of room and great views.

We stayed here on our first visit to HHI, and used our RCI Points. We did not know what to expect, and we were pleasantly surprised with the location and amenities. We visited in Mid-September 2013. It is located in the middle of the island, making it easy to go anywhere you want on the island in a short drive. We liked the location on the harbour, with nice views. There are restaurants and shops below, and we enjoyed walking the harbour path in the evening. The Mexican restaurant, San Miguel's tends to be loud in the evening with live entertainment that can be heard easily from your room, but luckily they shut it down by 10 pm. The pool and hot tub are nice, although the pool did not seem to be heated. The room was clean, with nice appliances and comfortable furniture. The bathroom had a Jacuzzi tub with shower, but seemed unnecessary and was difficult to step into without lifting your leg WAY up high to get in without stubbing your toe. We rode our rental bikes every day down to the beach at Palmetto Dunes, which was an awesome beach. The bike paths on the island are excellent, and you can get anywhere on bikes. We really loved our vacation, and cannot wait to return! We would stay hat Harbourside III again.

Room Tip: Rooms looking out to the harbour have the best view, stay on side away from Mexican restaurant.

We spent a week here last year and loved it so much we returned for two weeks this year. We had a two-bedroom two bathroom apartment, which was an RCI trade. The apartment was very well appointed.
Views from this building are pretty much over the square, or over the harbour and marshes. If you are over the square in the main season then from many apartments you get to see Shannon Tanner's nightly act with the children. There is also a small market below your balcony. Its great for people watching. If you want somewhere you can sit and have a quiet drink then you need to go when this is not on. We have done both, and enjoyed both. It was great watching the kids each night, this year we went later, and we just enjoyed people watching.
The balconies at the front look over harbour and marshes, for the most part a great view. They are however over the Mexican restaurant. We didn't notice any untoward food smells, but we were three floors up. What we did find a bit irritating was that they seem to play a radio constantly, even early morning when nobody is at the bar. Three times a week they have live entertainers, and again, if you don't enjoy this then you won't want to use your balcony. We loved it and every night there was a live entertainer we sat outside and listened. The apartments are very well insulated if you don't like this sort of thing, and we didn't find any of the noises from below intrusive once the doors were shut etc. However......will whoever tells the man with the leaf blower to do this below people's windows at 8.30am please realise people are on holiday and just may like to sleep late :o)
The resort is pretty much centre island, so handy for everything. It also has several restaurants of its own, which means your designated driver doesn't have to worry about a cocktail and a glass of wine with their dinner. There are also a selection of fairly interesting shops, and a nice walk along the harbour.
Our living room had quite a big modern tv, but there was quite a small old fashioned one in the master bedroom. This didn't bother us, we seldom put bedroom tv's on anyway.
The building managers have opened an office there now, but it is not always manned (or should that be personned..lol). If you need a lot of support from a tour desk, etc. then you may not be totally happy. It didn't bother us, or any of the people we spoke to.
There is a medium size swimming pool which in October did not appear heated. It also has a hot tub in the area, and because of the time of year it was a very quiet place to relax in the sun.
We liked the security of the double gates with a code, also the elevator has a code. We did order Pizza in one evening, and the pizza guy rang us when he reached the gate and my husband went down to meet him. This worked very well.
We plan to return, which I think says it all :o)

Room Tip: In summer Shannon Tanner does his act in the square, and you will hear this wherever you are. It d...

Harbourside III has pretty much everything you come to HHI for - a wonderful, mid-Island location, an outdoor outfitter for bikes, kayaks, and powerboats only steps away, five restaurants within a three minute walk, shops, boutiques, galleries, and of course the yachts in Shelter Cove Harbor. As part of Palmetto Dunes, Harbourside guests get access to three championship golf courses (note: the Arthur Hills course is an under-used gem of a track!), the Dunes House for beachside lunches and beverages, and the 11-mile lagoon which has guided fishing adventures for those who want the thrill of catching very big redfish. And then there's the beach, which is simply one of the best we have ever seen.

The villas are spacious and nicely appointed - perfect for up to four. They are well furnished and include all you really need for a relaxing time at the beach. A bonus is the bike racks and outdoor closet, so you can get weekly rentals (a bargain on HHI) for your bikes and keep the golf clubs out of the living spaces after the round is complete. Balconies are large and overlook the harbor. In the spring through fall, there is nightly entertainment for kids by Shannon Tanner, a HHI legend who has been creating his wacky show for the little ones on the pavilion stage for something like 20 years.

Harbourside III is one of the best values on HHI. The restaurants on the Harbourfront are a little pricey, but not obnoxiously so. Waits can be long in the summertime, of course, but that's pretty much standard for Hilton Head in season.

Room Tip: Unless you're into the bar scene, you may want to try to stay on the north side of the property...

We have been coming to the Island for 12 years, this was our first stay at Harbourside III. The villa was very spacious, furniture was comfortable and clean. I think the place presents better in person than the pictures. The balcony is large. There are 5 restaurants right downstairs along with shops and an ice cream and fudge shop. The beach shuttle will take you to the beach if you don't want to drive and on busy days/seasons I don't recommend it, you won't get a parking spot. We had a problem with our air conditioning and it was delt with immediately. There is a lot of landscaping noise in the mornings, you only hear it if you are sitting outside though. All in all I really enjoyed it and would return.
