“Best inexpensive lunch!”
Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

We had lunch here today. We arrived around 1:30 and waited 10-15 mins for a table. There were three in our party. I had the brisket with char bar chicken salad, Mom had smoked fried chicken with mashed potatoes and green beam almondine, and my daughter had the onion stack burger and French fries. Mom didn't care for the green beans and our waitress graciously brought her collards as an alternate choice. She said they were good although not cooked long enough for her taste. My daughter and I enjoyed our food as it was served. We had water to drink and the total bill was less than 28 dollars. So far this was our least expensive meal on the island and one of the best over all as far as taste and presentation. We would definitely eat here again!

“OK but not great”
Reviewed October 7, 2013

Based on the reviews and lots of local hype, we tried this restaurant. In a few words, it was OK but not great. Service was fair. Would not go out of my way to return.

“Expected more”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

After reading all of the great reviews and getting a personal recommendation from a friend, we were anxious to try this place. Went for an early dinner, it was mostly empty. We had ribs, pulled pork, and the fried smoked chicken, with macaroni and cheese, and dirty rice. Everyone really liked the chicken, the pulled pork with the vinegar sauce was good but not great, a little dry, and the ribs were ok, but kind of burnt on the outside. The sides were fine, our service was ok, but not overly friendly. Probably would not go back, as we thought was a bit expensive for what we got. Did not meet our expectations from what we had read and been told. The sauces were both good, and I would recommend the chicken, and the ribs would have been better if a little less charred. Have had better BBQ other places.

“great lunch”
Reviewed October 2, 2013

We ate out back on the patio, which was unique and OK (it would have been better without the flies). We each had the Lunch + 3 special, which was one meat and three sides. I had 1/4 smoked fried chicken and it was wonderful. It was juicy without being greasy, hot, and flavorful. The dirty rice side dish was really good, hot, and spicy. The green beans side was excellent, too. My wife had brisket with her meal and said it was very good. I am not a fan of cornbread, but the piece we got with our lunch was very good; it had honey and jalapenos and it was tasty and not dry like most cornbread. There is quite a selection of draft beer. Service was good, and the prices were reasonable. We would be happy to return to this restaurant.

“Hilton Head Must”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

One Hot Mama's resturant is "must visit " when staying on Hilton Head Island. We thought the BBQ pulled pork was some the best we have ever had. Their ribs are excellent also. The prices are reasonable and portions large.
