Pinckney Island offers a great getaway for hiking, biking. birding, or just communing witth nature of the Carolina Low Country. It's free and I have never seen it crowded The quiet away from the highway, with just the bird and animal sounds is magnificent Bring your own water, good binoculars, and comfortable shoes.

Whether you’re walking or riding bikes, you’ll see beautiful local birds in their habitat. Wear sneakers or good walking shoes, definitely need sunscreen and, depending on the time of year, bug spray. Enjoy miles of paths, ponds, and views. Depending on your timing you may be treated to a rookery- hundreds of birds gathering - beautiful and noisy . Nature at its best.

Beautiful.
Peaceful.
Lowcountry at its best.
As mentioned in other reviews - this is a great place to ride, walk, bird watch, gator watch, or a little of each. Just a short drive from HHI or Bluffton - you can spend an hour or half a day on the Island. It never seems to be crowded and is best done at low tide for maximum wildlife sightings. The freshwater ponds are both scenic and full of beautiful birds and other wildlife.
Bring your energy, your camera, your bug spray and your water and you’re in for a special treat.

Thank Randy K

Pinkney Island is definitely my favorite thing about Hilton Head. It is a rookery, which can change drastically from year to year based on storms. On our latest trip, almost all of us saw a painted bunting.

Basic easy hike. Birds and a few butterflies. Watch closely. We saw two alligators. No bathrooms. A few areas to stop and rest on a bench.
