When the tide went out, the marsh came alive. There were little crabs running around and birds of all kinds all over the marsh. You can stand still and watch the salt marsh come alive. If you are not familiar with the salt marshes of the low country, this is a great place to learn.

Always a beautiful and peaceful place to walk or ride bikes. Located perfectly between Bluffton and HHI

We wanted a nice quite place to walk and just spend time together. This was the perfect place. Very beautiful scenery and lots of natural beauty.
We walked to the first pond and saw 3 alligators.
All in all, a very nice couple of hours.

If you want a place absent of traffic for a hour or two, this is the place! We hiked it, but be forwarned- the signage on the trails is lousy and there were no more printed maps at the parking lot (perhaps no money in the budget!). There are no bathrooms at the lot nor anywhere in the refuge- better hit one before leaving the hotel and be prepared to "listen to the call of nature" out on the trail. And this is a salt marsh- be prepared for bugs but don't this keep you from enjoying this slice of of the lowcountry!

We've been visiting Hilton Head Island for many years and never took the time to visit this refuge until last year. What a wonderful walk we had. The paths are clearly marked and the vegetation and wildlife prolific. We'll be visiting again with family in June!
