“A Refreshing Choice”
Reviewed February 24, 2014

Sonesta has set the benchmark for Hilton Head. I stayed at this location when It was the Crowne Plaza and Im shocked by the changes and renovations that was sorely needed. The reason we go to HHI is the relaxing nature the island provides. I usually don't spend much time IN the hotel as I like to be out and about...however on this trip I found myself wanting to stay in and explore the changes, the bar, lounge, and contemplated extending my stay just because of how comfortable the place was. This is a fantastic choice no matter the situation. New, Clean, Vibrant, and just what the island needed. Yes I will be back and Yes it will be SONESTA!

My husband and I stayed here for one night after staying at the Omni Oceanfront resort. The hotel grounds are large offering many activities throughout. The resort has beach access, but it is quite a bit back from the main hotel area compared to the Omni which is right on the beach. Although you are able to get a "pool view" from the majority of the grounds, you are only able to get an "ocean view" from discreet locations. I also should warn that the entrance to the resort is pretty far back in a gated community which makes getting in and out of the grounds a bit of a chore.

It seemed to us that the hotel catered more to families and children rather than couples. There seemed to be a lot of wet screaming children throughout the grounds (including lobby/bar area) and no distinction between adult and family areas. For example, where we would have preferred to have a glass of wine outside by the pool and hear the sounds of the ocean breeze in the evenings, the Sonesta provided a large movie screen in the pool playing a children's movie loudly throughout the entire grounds. Not quite the relaxing experience we were hoping for, but I think it would be great if you had children and wanted lots of activities to keep them busy.

On the positive side, the grounds seemed well maintained and the rooms were clean and spacious. I believe all rooms have balconies, but be sure to book the "view" you want (e.g. pool), otherwise your balcony will likely face out to the parking lot like ours did.

We truly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback regarding your recent visit. Our property is located roughly one hundred and fifty yards from the sand and we have select Ocean Horizon rooms as well as Ocean view rooms available. The entrance to our resort is located in the gated Shipyard plantation, which has a beautiful route covered with Spanish moss trees, three nine hole golf courses, and bike trails leading all the way up to the front doors of our resort. Our resort is able to accommodate to both couples traveling to stay with us as well as families. Since our recent renovation, we have had more couples choose to stay with us than families; however, we do our best to accommodate every single guest and family member here at the Sonesta. Thank you again for your review and we hope to welcome you back in the near future!

The Sonesta was previously the Crowne Plaza. While it was nice and comfortable and the staff nice it is nothing compared to the new and improved. Which isn't always that great. But in this instance the improvement is wonderful. I have stayed at this resort a multitude of times since it's become the Sonesta (and quite often over the last 20 years as the Crowne Plaza). I was here last week on the way to Florida, and I usually stay a night or two passing through; and I do so on my way back home as well. As I came back through this trip I was greeted, as usual, with smiles and a heart felt welcome. I was upgraded to a wonderful room and waiting for me in the room was a plate of fruit and nuts and water. I was blown away by the hospitality. They take seriously the word "hospitality" in the "hospitality" industry. Such a small gesture just made my day. And I would be amiss not to mention the amazing front desk staff; particularly Anka and Mollie. Anka and I have become friends, she is just the sweetest thing. And she always greets me with a hug. I never want to leave here. But I can tell you one thing this is where i come every time I come to Hilton Head. Just makes the visit so pleasant. I've stayed in many a hotel around the world over the years and this is one of the best. And the rooms are so beautiful and well decorated!!

Room Tip: All the rooms are nicely positioned, not really a bad among them. The only rooms I don't really...

Overall stay very good!!! Staff is very classy and focused on customer service,We only had a small little detail and Larry the maintance supervisor said" I will take care of the that right now" personally. What a pleasant sound that was, all the staff was the same way from the bellman, valet, and front desk. They are very eger to please.Rooms were well appointed new renovation, and it was done with no detail overlooked BIG smart flat screen TV,tile shower ,and comfy balcony. If possible request room 5084 great view.Only a few drawbacks I just cant justify the resort fees? Sadly the are there missing a few things to be classified"Resort" A 6 person Hottub for a resort? Maybe a little welcome cocktail that's a resort ! Lobby bar overpriced as usual 11 dollars and very small selection. But the staff and the surroundings are great.

Room Tip: Upper floors on the south side for best views

Just got back from a last minute trip to Hilton Head Island with my family. We decided to get away from snowy Connecticut and booked a last minute weekend trip to the Sonesta for Presidents Day Weekend. We arrived on Valentines Day and quickly realized that with 4 girls (between 7-13) and three adults that we were going to have a tough time getting into a restaurant considering it was Valentines Day. We called down to the restaurant on property, Heywards, and they were great in accomodating a party of our size with a last minute reservation. The food was great (loved the Oysters and Clams!!!) and the staff was more than accommodating when it came to working with 4 young girls and their food requests. The next couple of days the Sonesta continued to impress. Both pools are heated which the girls took full advantage of, along with 'Just us Kids' who was kind enough to loan us a big box of markers for a couple days so the kids could color at night. We had a suite with a connecting room which gave us plenty of space for the kids. We ordered room service on several occasions and it was always on-time and they were great with accommodating the kids requests. The bottom line for us was that we didn't need to leave the resort. We have been to Hilton Head Island numerous times and this was our first stay at the Sonesta and won't be our last! We had everything we needed and as hard as it can be to relax on a trip like this when you are chasing around four young girls who have been couped up because of snow for days and days we were truly able to get some rest and relaxation ourselves while the kids had fun. Great lobby bar as well and loved the Blood Orange Mojitos!!!

Hotel recently renovated and it was beautiful, staff very friendly and everything clean. Biggest negative was the room we stayed in had a pedestal sink and absolutely NO counter space. Getting ready for a formal event is no fun when you have to put a curling iron on the back of the toilet/ nowhere to put anything. All rooms are not like this. Friends had a room with a bathroom with lots of counter space, so ask if this is important to you. Otherwise, fantastic!

Room Tip: Ask about the bathroom!

Booked for Valentines day and my wife was so happy!! This resort is a excellent choice if traveling to Hilton Head. Clean, Friendly, Modern. Staff were very helpful. When we went it was rather chilly so didnt get to explore the pools or beach but we will definatly be staying there this summer. The ARUM Spa was great that was the first massage ive had in 10 years and it was so relaxing. Thank You Sonesta and Arum. This trip should keep me out of the dog house for a good while.
