Overall we loved our stay at Sonesta Hilton Head. Our daughter absolutely loved the pool and the beach. Very kid friendly.

Pros:
- Amazing location inside large gated golf and tennis community with excellent paved trails for running, walking or bicycling. Absolutely gorgeous.
- Right on the beach. Superb lagoon pool. Heated pool and hot tub also available.
- Nice contemporary décor all over hotel.
- Awesome bathrooms and bedding. Excellent rooms.
- Excellent and very friendly staff. Especially front desk, housekeeping and bell boys.
- Great restaurants with excellent food.
- Excellent outdoor seating, perfect for late evening drinks outside by the bar.
- Very kid friendly, yet I believe it would work for a romantic getaway too.

Cons:
- Restaurant service is a little slow. Very nice and friendly wait staff, great food, just a tad slow.
- Poolside bar was also slow. It was not busy, yet bartenders seemed to take their time to make drinks.

Thank you for your excellent feedback about your recent stay at our stunning new property. Our outdoor lagoon and pool area is one of the many elements that make our hotel special. We are glad you enjoyed the many multi-purpose trails within the Shipyard Plantation. Thank you for your praise of our restaurants, modernly decorated guest rooms, and luxurious outdoor seating areas. We will definitely pass along your comments regarding food service wait time to our Food and Beverage Director so that the proper steps will be taken to stream line the food and beverage preparation and delivery process. We are glad you appreciated our child friendly atmosphere and how you noted how our resort can provide a relaxing aura for any type of guest. We look forward to welcoming you back soon.

The hotel had just completed renovation so everything was very new. Rooms were nice but not very big. Exterior pool area is beautiful during the day and even more so at night. Some staff was friendly as others were not. Food and Beverage service during the day at the pool was horrible. Prices were extremely high for all food and beverage which forced us to go out more than we would have liked. We have stayed at two other places of similar price point in hilton head and their staff would bend over backward for their guests and their was much better value for the price. I had 4 rooms for guests i took and one of my guests was asked for a tip by housekeeping. Nice hotel but there is better value for the same price on the island.

We stayed at the Sonesta Resort Hilton Head because a friends daughter was having her wedding reception there and we decided to have our holiday there. It is a beautiful hotel and all of the staff are friendly and helpful. It is a little pricey especially when an extra charge is made at the end of the holiday. This was actually more than we were expecting. Probably to cover the renovation. Our room was lovely but not much of a view as we were on the side. Given that the hotel was far from full it would have been nice to have a pleasanter view. We did not ask to move but had we realised how quiet the hotel was we may have done. We had breakfast on three morning and the buffet was good value at $18.95 all you could eat and freshly cooked eggs and pancakes available. Ate dinner three times. Food good but choice very limited. Perhaps more expensive than restaurants that had to be driven to.

Room Tip: Think you should ask if hotel quiet.

Thank you for your review of your recent stay at the Sonesta Resort on Hilton Head Island. How lovely to be able to make a wedding trip into a miniature vacation at our brand new hotel. We are glad you were treated so well by our friendly and helpful staff. Our resort fee actually covers a number of hotel amenities and conveniences such as self-parking, unlimited access to our gated Shipyard Plantation, unlimited island-wide local calls, basic high-speed wired and wireless package of up to three devices in each guest room, a 46” internet-ready smart TV, a 24-hour access to our Tech Lounge equipped with two computers and printers, a 24-hour use of Fitness Center, a heated outdoor pool, shade pool, hot tub, and pool towel service, transportation to and from Shipyard Golf Course, daily newspaper available by request, in-room Keurig coffee makers, Just Us Kids and resort activities. We will ensure that this information is conveyed to all guests at check in. Thank you for complementing our breakfast in Heyward’s. We are in the process of updating and expanding all of our menus at every restaurant. We hope you will come back soon to enjoy these new additions.

I realize this has become a long review, so for the speed-reader:
Pros: location, service, cleanliness, convenience, comfortable bed, great shower
Cons: price, but you get what you pay for, and the luxury and service that you get for this price range is a true value.

One might wonder what differentiates one hotel from another, but in the case of Sonesta it is the attention to detail and the service. Every space - both public as well as in the room - is decorated exquisitely. The palette of colors is clearly chosen by an experienced decorator and the details like the art and the accent pieces make a huge difference over the huge chain hotels. The lighting is excellent and logical - it made me realize that the bathroom lighting I have at home is woefully inadequate. The other major differentiator is the bedding. It is as much like sleeping in your own bed as any hotel I have stayed in. They have light down comforters sandwiched between spotless clean sheets. The towels are bigger and fluffier than the towels I have at home - and I buy the biggest, fluffiest towels I can find!. Another nice touch that makes you feel more at home is the personal Keurig in the room. There is a mini refrigerator, so with a trip downstairs to keep a pint of milk in my fridge, I was set for coffee just like I make at home every morning.
The outside seating was exemplary - mostly soft cushions and what is a mystery is how they keep them dry - even shortly after a rain shower! It was a guilty pleasure to have wine and pizza outside the first night we arrived and were tuckered out from a day of travel, and the soft, comfortable couches made us feel right at home. There are hammocks and shaded lounge areas and a shade pool. The hot tub is covered which is a nice convenience if it is a rainy day.

Every Sonesta employee we encountered asked us if everything was all right, and housekeeping even asked if there was anything we needed to make our stay more enjoyable. When we mentioned how much we loved the body lotion, an extra bottle appeared each day. That is a gesture that costs so little, but pays off enormously in perception of customer service and generation of brand loyalty.

Hilton Head is a beautiful location and Sonesta has chosen a perfect spot on the island in the Shipyard area. I imagine most people will have cars, but if you don't you can easily spend a long weekend there without ever leaving or getting bored. A short walk over the dunes (remember to stop at the pool house and get your towels) gets you to the beach where they rent beach chairs and umbrellas that you can charge to your room - a nice touch since it is a public beach. You can rent bikes by the day and there are enough bike trails around the island to get you just about anywhere you want to go - restaurants, shops (request a basket for the bike) or just joy riding on the beach.

Rooms were exceptionally quiet. There is no annoying room air conditioner - the central air was as quiet as the one I have at home. We could not hear any noise from neighboring rooms or showers. The verandas were also quiet. We spent a good deal of time out there and because of the way they are constructed, we could not hear other people and we don't think we were bothering anyone else.

The only slight annoyance was that I kept missing the elevator for two reasons. 1) because of its commitment to a good night's sleep, Sonesta has the volume on the bells for the elevator turned down, and 2) the elevator waiting area overlooks a huge 5-story atrium that has an exquisite piece of mobile art hanging in it. During the day I would admire the hanging art and the elegant bar carved out of a beautiful piece of some kind of wood (I kept forgetting to ask what it was). At night I would get completely distracted by the people watching (especially fun during an event). I must have missed 10 elevators, but if you are on Hilton Head you are probably on vacation, so take some time to enjoy the surroundings. There is plenty to enjoy at this Sonesta resort.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and could just barely see the ocean - I imagine lower floors can't see...

W stayed one night and the hotel has done extensive renovations....the entire hotel is beautiful, modern and clean. We stayed with two small children and enjoyed the beach and the pool. They have fun kids activities as well...feeding turtles, making crafts, finding sand dollars...etc. We ate breakfast, lunch and dinner at the hotel...all very good, a little pricey but to be expected in a hotel. The live music at the pool and the restaurants were a nice plus too. Our favorite hotel we have stayed at in Hilton Head so far, we will be back.

Thank you for your praise of our recently renovated hotel. It is marvelous that your children were able to participate in some of our Just Us Kids activities like the turtle feeding, craft making, and beach activities. We strive to price our food items in all of our restaurants fairly and comparable for our guests needs and the market prices in general. During your next visit, please feel free to visit our concierge desk for information about other dining options on the island as well. Thank you for naming us as your favorite hotel on the island, and we look forward to having you back soon.

My wife and I spent two days here and loved every minute. The hotel and our room were beautifully furnished and decorated, and everything was spotlessly clean and inviting. The entire staff were pleasant and helpful. We ate all our meals there at the hotel, and they were delicious. There was no reason to go into town for food. We relaxed by the pool in a cabana, enjoying the music. My wife especially liked the fact that you can walk directly into the pool at the shallow end without steps. (She has health issues that make steps difficulty for her.) We also liked being right there at the beach. We had a great time and will probably visit again next year.

A group of us travelled from Ireland to The Sonesta Hotel as we have done for many years to play several rounds of Golf. Up to this year the hotel was Part of The Crown Plaza Group so we were slightly apprehensive as to what changes were made.

Upon arrival we were delighted to receive our usual happy greeting from Charlie and Eric, two of the long standing and exceptionally helpful staff at the Concierge desk. We were delighted to find over the coming days that The Sonesta Group had the foresight to keep the majority of the dedicated staff, including Sarah at reception, Andrea, Richie and Sandy at the bar along with Nick and Steve and most importantly Barbara who cooks the beast Omelette on Hilton Head! In addition if we had any concerns they were quickly and very efficiently answered by Lisa, the Operations Manager.

This hotel is very well positioned close to a wide selection of great golf courses and top quality restaurants. The rooms are spacious, clean and very well equipped. In addition the close proximity to the beach is a great bonus. The pool bar is well stocked and the pool area is clean and at the time we travelled in mid May was not at all crowded. The breakfast selection is fantastic and will set you up for the day. If I was to be in any way critical I would question the wisdom of placing the main bar in an open plan reception area, however there is a select outdoor terrace bar overlooking the pool.

Overall we were delighted with the changes as well as being delighted that some things, mainly the staff, had not changed. This is a great hotel and for anyone travelling to Hilton Head it must come into consideration.

Thank you for review all the way from Ireland! We enjoy hosting you and your companions every year for your golf trip, and enjoyed showing you what the all new Sonesta is all about. Almost all of our staff members were retained after we converted to the Sonesta brand. Charlie, Eric, Lisa, Barbara, Andrea, Richie, Sandy, Nick, and Steve will all be informed of your warm compliments. We are glad you enjoyed the close proximity to the beach, Sweet Cane, our breakfast in Heyward’s and the modern amenities and décor in your guest rooms. We choose to place Bayley’s Bar and Terrace in such a central location as a means to serve as a relaxing meeting space, be it for a coffee or a cocktail. Thank you for recommending us to anyone traveling to Hilton Head Island. We look forward to having you all back next year.
