“Will Go Again!”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

First visit, will go back. Halibut with potato pancake on top was delicious. My husband really enjoyed the German sampler plate and the potato pancake appetizer. Alfred is a little much but we enjoyed our evening with friends and will return.

“Small place, personal service, good food”
Reviewed February 14, 2014

Ate here with friends in February 2014 and enjoyed the meal. Owner is on premise and handles much of the up front efforts. Not many tables, essentially the size of a small UPS store and hidden from the parking lot. You need to know where you are going.

Basically German food and it was very good. I had what I call the sampler plate but it has another name on menu. Also had the potato pancake appetizer. Everything was good. Liked the sauerbraten the least but it was still good. I like mine a little more sour. My wife does not like German food and had the special-of-the-day fish dish and liked it. Overall a good night and would recommend and would return.

“Reduced from Five stars to Four”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

This is a truly "hidden gem" on Hhi and has been outrageously good in the past. It still is special, but the last two trips have noted a change in the food quality. The Veal Choos used to be "melt in your mouth" tender, but recently not as good. The Cordon Bleu was creamy, smooth, and succulent; recently on the dry side and not as appealing.

Hopefully I caught them on a bad night or the purveyors slipped in some substandard meat. They're still four stars, but need to be cautious of living on past accolades. I hope it's just a rough spot.

“Rude and Arrogant Owner/ Waiter”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

The rude waiter or maître-de that people are complaining about on Trip Advisor was probably Alfred! I cannot imagine a restaurant owner treating guests the way Alfred treated us tonight. When we asked for iced tea we were emphatically told that they did NOT serve tea any kind. Perhaps this was because the owner Alfred wanted plenty of wine around so that he could guzzle it between tables as we saw him doing when we went to the restrooms. He had the nerve to come and rearrange our silverware to the "correct" placement while we were eating after earlier snapping at my wife when she asked if they had any vegetarian options. The food was good but we will never return! It was obvious to us that unless you were a regular at this restaurant, Alfred could care less about pleasing you (he was very courteous to another table nearby whom he obviously knew).

“Thank goodness they reopened before we left HHI”
Reviewed February 1, 2014

Alfred's has been a long time favorite of ours when visiting Hilton Head Island. It's a tiny restaurant, seating only around 35-40 [including the few seats at the bar]. Tucked away in on of the little shopping areas on the South side of William Hilton Parkway, the big draw at Alfred's is the German food. Potato pancakes to die for.Outstanding weinerschnitzel, and if you have a B-I-G appetite, the German Sampler [Bratwurst, schnitzel, and sauerbraten] should be right up your alley. First rate service, too.
