We went the week of May 16th & the weather was AWFUL (rained EVERY day) but we made lemonade out of lemons. The resort had daily bike rides (rain or shine) and the pools were close by. The rooms were spacious (we had a 3 bedroom in 5400 building) & tastefully decorated. (I included a map of the grounds- I wish more people would do that!) They have a 9+ foot alligator in their lagoon & several gators & turtles in nearby ponds. The beach is a hike w/kiddos (we had 3,4 & 5 yr old w/us) but we made it OK. (We also rode the bikes a few times down to it.) There are 3 pools (the large one they show in all the pics, a heated one w/a basketball hoop & a kiddy pool that was 1 1/2 feet deep) The parking is all underneath the building which was nice. We did a day trip to Savannah that was less than 1 hour drive & lots of island shopping while the rain came down. From thrift stores to the Tanger outlets. FYI- Atlanta Bread has a 'Kids Eat Free" on Wednesdays. As does the local McDonalds- which also has an indoor playground- nice for all our rainy days. (Free w/adult purchase) Check-in went fast even w/a line of people & just ignore the timeshare pitches & don't answer the phone in your room! (Everyone you know will call you on your cell, right?) They also have a deal that you can use Players fitness facility for $20/unit/week. That seemed like a good deal, though we didn't use. Also beware of a timeshare pitch ripoff in the local WalMart. My Mom paid $20 to 'hold her space' for a timeshare pitch. (I wasn't there to stop her or I would've!!) Oh- and the internet WAS out for a day & 1/2- but they got it back on.

We were most pleasantly surprised!! Not being golfers, we were a bit apprehensive about visiting Hilton Head. The weather predictions were for thunderstorms, cloudiness, etc. Our villa at Spinnaker's Waterside were more than adequate. Clean grounds, very conveniently located to shopping, restaurants, etc. The weather turned out to be spectacular!! The only rain was one night and that was only for a few hours after 11PM. All the rest of the week it was sunny with temperatures in the low to mid 80's. Not one bad meal, either! Tons of restaurants to select from. Early bird specials at some. Favorites were: Aqua; Frankie Bones; Marley's. We also met some very nice people along the way. Would we go back? In a heartbeat!! The proximity to Charleston and Savannah is a big plus, as well

The ONLY negative during this trip was the underhanded way that the resort got us to go to a time share sales session by telling us that we would be attending a 'survey' only and that no sales presentation would be given. That was a total turnoff! The so-called 90 minute chat turned out to be three hours!!! Not wanting to be rude, but being very clear about not being interested in purchasing a time share, we were, nonetheless, subjected to high pressure sales techniques. Very disturbing!!!

We traveled to Hilton Head for our maiden voyage without even detailed photos of the accommodations at Spinnaker, walked into the 2-bedroom, and loved it. There were 2 BR, 2 BA, large kitchen, balcony, and covered parking. Bike Doctor delivered like-new bikes for all of us, and we rode on the beach every day. Now that's a scenic drive. We all want to go back, and actually, we didn't want to leave!

My spouse and I spent a lovely week at the WaterSide Resort this month. The amenities were comfortable, spacious, and clean. We had a great time on the bike rides, eating at the various food events, and doing some of the crafts. We were pleasantly suprised to find crafts for adults and children. The Staff was responsive and friendly. Regardless of the question or request they were kind and worked hard to help us make our vacation a memorable one.

My family headed down from the East Coast to Hilton Head filled with great expectations. We wanted sun, water and golf. What we got on our first day was my 16 year old daughter heading back to our room from the Hotel pool and getting bitten by a poisionous copperhead snake on her foot. At first we had no idea about what kind of snake it might be or how dangerous the situation would ultimately be. We called the Hotel front desk to enquire about snakes in the vacinity and what we got was Nothing, not yes there are dangerous snakes on the Island and you should call 911 immediately. We did call 911, they were prompt and my daughter spent two days
in the Hilton Head Hospital. They were great, she got anti venom serum and they cared for here very well. We cut our trip short and come back East. What really angered me was that the Hotel was not responsive at all. Only afterwards when my daughter was out of the Hospital did we hear from them. My question to them was, why don't they post signs saying that people should refrain from wearing open toes shoes when walking on the paths from the pool to the Hotel or be aware that there could be snakes in the vacinity, something to that effect. If they can warn about gators why not poisionous snakes. After my daughter got bitten, nobody at the Hotel did anything to notify any of the families (most who had small children) about the incident. I saw small children walking bare foot on the same path my daughter walked on and got bit the very next day. No one had any idea that someone had gotten bitten in the area. Come to find out at the Hospital, that this was not an isolated incident. Visitors get bitten every spring and summer. Playing golf is another hazzard. Golfers get bitten reaching for balls in the wooded areas. What my daughter's doctor told us was that he and others in the medical field have tried to request the Hotels on the Island to warn tourists about the dangers of poisionous snakes and what precautions to take, but the Hotels for obvious reasons don't want to acknowledge the fact.
Look, sure Waterside is a decent Hotel, its clean, centrally located, half-way decent pools (forget using the internet), the rooms are fine if dated and we loved the full kitchen. But at the end of day you need to judge a hotel also by their client services - good luck you won't find it at the Spinnaker Resort! I would never go back to this Hotel.

I reviewed the Waterside previously after our stay in December 2006. We returned for a second stay in January 2009. We found changes that were disappointing. The check-in process is now handled at the Waterside itself instead of the Spinnaker main desk as it was last time. That's fine, except that information was not included in our packet. The check-in staff at the Waterside were not friendly. They had an attitude and they didn't mind showing it. Don't annoy them by asking any questions. Courtesy is NOT their strong-suit.

They were much more heavy-handed with their sales techniques. I know the real estate industry is suffering, but GEEEZ. They were constantly parading potential buyers through the facility. They also called our room to spin their sales pitch.

The bathroom tiles in the master bathroom were losing their adhesion or something, because they popped loudly all through the night and popped when you stepped on them. In the master bedroom, the window blinds rattled through the night because even though the windows were closed, a breeze was still somehow coming through.

The units are advertised as having wireless connectivity. I could never get through the Spinnaker gateway to the internet. I called tech support and it looked as if the Spinnaker/Waterside gateway site was down. I called the Waterside to see if they could help. Of course they couldn't. And they weren't nice about it. I decided to use the single computer in the lobby. It worked, more or less. They do not have a printer for the computer.

The front door lock appeared to not work, but we eventually figured out that you simply have to lay into the door to get the lock to engage.

That's the bad. The good is the housekeeping staff. They were stellar. The unit was spotless and very well stocked, including extra blankets. The Waterside should be very grateful for their housekeeping staff.

Would we stay there again? I'm not sure. It would have to be a very, very good deal.

This place is great for families. The staff has been outstanding. We had a three bedroom unit for 4 adults and three children. It was clean and nicely appointed. There were great pools for the adults and kids, and most of our beach/dinner/shopping trips were on foot as Coligny Plaza was so close. We booked through a discount agency and feel fortunate to have gotten the deal we did. We will look to come back to Waterside next year and later as our three infants get older.
