This was a beautiful area where we parked, got a map, and walked. The map was not on scale, didn't give distances, or accurate landmarks. The preserve was very pretty, but we walked for more miles than intended. Much of the preserve could have been accessed by car if we had entered at another entrance. As I said, beautiful, but not well marked or an accurate map.

We make a point of discovering new places every time we go to Hiltonhead. (there are not many places left to discover for us). The was a gem.

The Forest Preserve is a great place to view island critters in their natural habitat. Place is a much better than when it first opened over 20 years ago. caution: take some Off insect repellant with you just in case. You will usually see an alligator or two & several other critters. It's also free.

Take a day away from the beach and enjoy a walk in the woods. Nice trails, and Forrest Gump was partially shot in this area.

Easy walk on a wide trail through the sea pine forest. Leads to an ancient shell ring formed ages ago by local Indians. Continue on and you arrive at three man-made lakes. Couldn't find out much about the boat ride. I think that would have been interesting. Did not see any alligators which was a disappointment to the children. This was a pleasant easy walk but would recommend bug spray. In general, sea pines is a quiet, lovely area with gorgeous beaches and many golf courses and fabulous level bike trails.
