Attraction details
Owner description: Designed by George W. Cobb and built in 1963 The Barony Course was designed by George W. Cobb in the early 1960's and was one of the first courses on the Island. From the tee box, many of the holes appear to be relatively open, but as you approach the newly resurfaced Bermuda greens, the real challenge becomes clear. The greens are generous and protected by thick rough and unforgiving bunkers, entitling the golfer to have good touch with mid to short-range iron shots. This is a course where accuracy, not length, is paramount.

“Golf at Barony”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2013 via mobile

This was one of the worst courses that we have ever played. The tee boxes were basically none existent and those that could be found were not groomed so the grass was taller than the tee. The fairways were also in awful condition with crab grass, tire dents, ant hills, etc.. We remember when this was a premier course that we looked forward to play. It is so sad to see it in its current condition. It would have been professional for the clubhouse to be honest and explain the overall condition of the course.

“Decent layout spotty conditions”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 7, 2013

This course is typical of the Heritage Collection courses such as Shipyard, Palmetto Hall Plantation and Oyster Reef. The layout winds it way through the Port Royal homes and lagoons. There are numerous dog legs and the holes are tight. This makes the course play longer than its yardage and difficult for anyone above a 15 Handicap. The course conditions were spotty with bare spots on the tees and fairways. The greens were not in very good shape and some were being reconstructed. If you are playing the Heritage courses, I would suggest Palmetto Hall or Oyster Reef, similar layouts with a little bit better conditions.

“Skip this One!”

Relatively short, but tight. A few greens were diseased (fungus) and we got a 5 minute sales pitch on hole number 6, Par 3 to make a contribution to the First Tee. Golf price was too much for the condition of the course.

“Dogleg heaven”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 3, 2013

Almost every hole was a dogleg. Too many trees and sand traps. If you're not a skilled golfer, this course is not for you. If you're not a skilled golfer, go to Myrtle Beach.

“Golfing with the locals”

Well maintained golf course in Port Royal Plantation. The Club House (newly built) offers a way to unwind after a great round of golf. Golf is open to the public at affordable prices.
