My girlfriend and was visiting savannah Ga and decided to travel up to Hilton Head for the Gullah tour. The tour guide was very knowledgable but we didn't see anything they could relate to the Gullah people. 90% of the tour consist of modern homes built on old land. The tour guide will tell you about who use to reside/own on that piece of property but who cares. There are no history artifacts. You will only get off the bus twice. It's just a waste of $32. Should be only $7.99!! This is a REAL review!!

The Gullah Heritage Tour on Hilton Head Island was unusually informative and fun because of Elmore, our guide, He was knowledgeable, humorous, and genuinely entertaining. We visited ten areas that were Gullah towns before all the resorts, hotels and golf courses took over the island. We discovered that slaves came from the rice growing area of West Africa because the rice plantations on the island and in the Bluffton area needed slaves acquainted with rice growing. But for 100 years they also grew Island cotton that grew eight feet high and produced unusually long cotton thread. We learned about the women and men who came during Union forces occupation of the island to begin educating the slaves--and what steps have been taken through the years to provide education for the Gullah when the only connection with the mainland was by boat.

Our experience was enlightening, informative and confirming of things that we have heard about our black heritage. We as a group were impressed with the knowledge and pleasant personality exhibited by our tour guide Mr. Campbell on (9-11-2013). We opted for the step on tour option due to the number of senior adults in our group. The pricing for this option was very reasonable considering we had 29 people. We would highly recommend this tour for any age group of people. So if you are in the Hilton Head Island area and looking for some history, this would be a great tour.

My husband and I were very interested in the Gullah culture and people. We enjoyed the tour and felt that the guide was very knowledgeable. We did feel that it would have been better if we were able to see the actual homes and crafts that the Gullah people made. One down side was the tour was was a bit pricey.

The tour guides are very nice, and hearing about their families is interesting, but this tour is essentially a drive-by around the island. As the other reviewers have stated the guides are very pleasant and personable. However, most times we were already past some of the more interesting things when the guide mentioned it. If it is raining on your first day in Hilton Head, it would be useful. We actually drove back to some of the places we went on the tour to get a better look. At one location, there was the most beautiful and majestic view that was a complete missed opportunity. We would not have seen it had we not gone back on our own. The website says one of the highlights is the Tabby Ruins, but we didn't go there or, (maybe we did and we went by so fast we missed it. You are not missing anything if you do not go on this tour. Look up the historic sites and go on your own.
