Me, my fiance and my two kids had a ball. We went out of season and had a great time. It was as if we had the place to ourselves. The rooms were large and comfortable. Great place for a weekend getaway!

We stay at the South of the Border Motel every time we travel to Georgia and back. The rooms have always been neat and clean, the property is well maintained, and the people are always very friendly.
The meals that are served in the restaurants are enough to fill us up and are always very tasty. The prices are also extremely reasonable, compared to others along the interstate. We hope to see "Pedro" very soon!!!

SOUTH OF THE BORDER THE CHEESIEST PLACE ON EARTH. Ok that was a little bit of an overstatement. But not far off target. Stayed the night back in the summer of 2003. The staff was pleasant. The room was very comfortable albeit very dated. Imagine a by-the-hour motel circa 1973.
I forget the name of the restaurant where we ate breakfast however it was quite good. All in all can't say that I can complain. I mean it was a motel you can't exactly expect 5 star accomodations. The restaurant was a diner and the food was of that quality. It wasn't that bad at all. I slept and ate well, you can't ask for much more. To be honest with you I plan on stopping by again this summer when I go to FT.
Lauderdale. Visit SOTB with the eyes of a child and truly enjoy your surroundings.

I remember staying there as a kid on my way to Disney World back in '77 and '86; seemed like a great place. I remember how much faster the ride went in NC having the billboards almost every mile... We knew the place was going to be very tacky, but wanted to stop there on the way home from our honeymoon... I wish we hadn't... The place was really depressing... Only 2 rides were working, stores were empty with the same products from 1977, arcade was run-down, the fast food place there was disgusting and had nothing in stock to eat... Could have sworn we saw a drug deal or two taking place around there... Our room smelled like mildew and hadn't changed since I last remember staying there--had one of the early touch-tone phones, paneling on the walls, "cable" tv with about 7 channels, very unkept. My wife woke up now and then feeling ants crawling on her. No big deal, back to sleep. Woke up a half hour later feeling something on her neck--a cockroach! We immediately fled out at 1:30am back on our way home to NH. Management never returned our phone calls after filling out a comment card. Thanks for nothing, Pedro!

I was looking forward to spending the night here with the wife and kids, having seen the gaudy lights on the way down to Florida and having seen their ubitiquous bumper stickers for years. Various articles I read got me interested in a night there, as I am usually attracted to tacky places, minuture golf, game rooms, etc., and have two boys who get a kick out of the same. After a quick pull off I-95 I cancelled my room reservation pronto. Although the place has some tacky charm, its awfully run down. I was actually concerned about getting my family out of there after about an hour or so. We took some rusty highway overpass trying to find minute golf and ended up in some very dingy alley behind some buildings. I did not see the inside of any rooms but the exterior looked really grimey and depressing. If I ever need to run from the law for a few days at least I have a good idea of a place to hide. The game room, which my son was very psyched about, really stinks. Suffice it to say its the kind of place where I lost 4 or the first 5 quarters I put into a machine. I was much disappointed to fin that this place is an unmitigated dump. Couldnt see spending the night unless your real adventerous.

I have been staying at South of the Border for years. It's clean with a great steak house (Pedler's) and a diner if you don't want it fancy. Just because it was built in the 1950s does not mean it's not user friendly. Extremely close to Rockingham Raceway and a great place to stay while attending races there.
