Who would have thought that an institution so famous for -- well, for things that TripAdvisor would probably censor me for saying plainly -- would have such an astonishing art collection? Presumably it is that history that keeps this collection from being better known and recognized. A breathtaking survey of medieval and Renaissance art in galleries you virtually have to yourself, so under-attended is this museum. Rarely indeed is such magnificent work available in this part of the country -- and rare indeed that you can enjoy it in such peace and solitude, anywhere. Parking is convenient and free, but the hours are extremely limited.
