Had lunch with a friend here when I first moved to the area and was totally charmed by the location, the atmosphere, as well as the food. A true cottage, built in 1893, that had been a private residence. It served as home to a few local businesses before becoming Mary's at Falls Cottage. Perched atop a hill overlooking Reedy River Park, the view off the back deck in the spring is amazing due to the meticulous upkeep of our beautifully preserved park.
That being said, you'd think such an adorable little restaurant would be the perfect place to spend a Valentines dinner. My husband and I were actually married in the park, so he was trying to surprise me with a special dinner on V-day and had made reservations there two months prior, as it is limited seating at the cottage. He called the week of our dinner to double-check on the arrivals time, only to be told by the manager that they were canceling their Valentine's dinner party because they were too busy with the preparations at their new location in Simpsonville. They tell us this 3 DAYS BEFORE VALENTINES DAY?! We were furious that the manager didn't think to CALL those that had made reservations. But honestly, any restaurant that pulls such a stunt, I don't care what the excuse, short of a family emergency, that would be excusable. Sorry Mary, but you have lost our business forever with this one. There are too many fine restaurants in town to deal with an absolutely bottom rung thoughtlessness.
