The current Andrew Wyeth exhibit is fantastic! He is my husbands favorite painter and it was wonderful to be able to see the museum's full collection on display.
We were also extremely lucky to visit on a day that Charleston watercolorist Mary Whyte was giving a tour of her collection entitled "Working South ". From the museum website: "There are 30 examples in the exhibition, from Upstate textile workers to a shoe shiner in New Orleans, from industrial cleaners in Bishopville SC to a wooden boat maker along the Gulf Coast. The exhibition will be on view through September 18, 2011."
Be sure and go see it if you are in town!!

My friends and I visited this art museum specifically to see Andrew Wyeth's exhibit and it was spectacular! It is certainly a place to visit to enjoy seeing such wonderful work...his as well as many others. There is also a very nice gift shop here.

This county art museum offers four floors of amazing art. It is free, the docents are friendly, and the building is interesting in it's own right. Much of the art reflects the people and places of South Carolina. I found the Andrew Wyeth collection to be rather large and spectacular. I spent at least 30 mins reading commentary with each picture in the wyeth gallery. The Mary Whyte collection of workers from the south was also stunning. There was a collection of photographs from Greenville that also mesmerized me.

If you are expecting a major museum, you may be disappointed. But, if you realize this is smaller county museum you will be happy you stopped. I couldn't find anything negative about this museum. Bravo Greenville for bringing so much art to your community in this museum and all up and down Main Street in downtown.

Very nice art museum, very friendly staff and some if the best exhibits I have seen in many years. Not crowded and nice and cool.

In an interesting, almost triangular building design, the exhibitions are on levels top to bottom, connected by stairways and elevator. They have a collection of 70 works of art by Jasper Johns that I thoroughly enjoyed seeing. Not all the Johns art is on view all the time, only selected pieces, so I would look them up online and try to learn what's hanging if you plan to visit.
