We came to Greenville SC for a karate tournament and chose the Westin as it appeared to be a hotel with character. We loved this hotel from the moment we stepped in the door! Staff have been so friendly and helpful to us during our extended stay. Its location is on Main Street and if you are coming to Greenville, I must recommend you stay in the downtown area! There is so much going on - street musicians, bands, great shops and places to eat, horse drawn carriage rides, farmers market on Saturday like nothing I have seen! Other members of our karate team stayed at a national hotel chain about 7-8 miles from the downtown area and have not had the same experience that we have. We got a group rate so not sure what the cost would have been if we had not been part of this group. For convenience we ate at the hotel for breakfast - nice buffet, good food but it did add up for us. There are probably other places to eat breakfast nearby but this was just more convenient for us. We hope the tournament comes back to Greenville and we will be staying at the Westin again!

We are currently staying here. Have stayed at the Hyatt, Hampton Inn etc. We brought our pets which we always do at Westins. We usually are treated very well. Here we are treated like second class citizens and our room was down graded because of our all pets even though we paid the pet fee. Usually we are brought pet beds and food bowls. We were treated much better at the Hyatt downtown which gave us a gorgeous room over looking downtown.

I stay at hotels every week for the past seven years, IMO this is not a 4 Star or 4 Diamond property. This is a historic building, but not done right the way a Ritz Carlton would do the rooms in a Historic Building, or even other Starwood Properties.

I have stayed at this property twice before, because of the location and affiliation with Starwood SPG.

I was "upgraded" to a corner room on the 10th floor, big problems with this being that it is Summertime in South Carolina. The hallways on the 10th floor are hot to start with, the Air Conditioning can not cool the hallways because of the high floor, old building, poor insulation. Take a trip to the 8th floor and feel the difference.

Most sad however is that the AC in my room was never able to cool the room, I asked to move rooms and was told the hotel was sold out, Maintenance came up and while being pleasant, confirmed what I thought, the room was going to be hot.
The problem in these room are well known by maintenance and the front desk staff.
If it wasn't in the middle of a hot summer, probably wouldn't be a problem, but the AC in these handful of room can not cool the rooms properly, even when I woke up in the morning, it was still uncomfortable.

Other problems: Wall paper was peeling off the walls in the bathroom, found 3 different types of bugs in the room, maybe arriving thru the very old windows, Furnishings in the room are ancient.

If you are reading this in the Summer and are assigned to a high floor room, when you check in, if the room is very hot, immediately request to be moved a lower floor.

My husband and I visited Greenville last weekend in part to celebrate our anniversary as well as to further explore the area with retirement in mind. We stayed at the Westin and were supremely satisfied with the location and staff's attention to detail. From the front desk staff to the servers in the restaurant, everyone was very friendly and extremely attentive to our needs. We especially want to point out the concierge, Ms. Smith. We asked that she make a reservation for our anniversary dinner. Later in the day she called us to confirm that our reservation had been made at the time of our choice and asked what year anniversary it was for us. When we returned to our room late that evening from a wonderful dinner and stroll around Main St., we found a dessert plate w/ chocolate covered strawberries, melon, blueberries and a hand written note congratulating us on 33 years of marriage. It was an unexpected but very much appreciated gesture on her part. It may be something she does on a regular basis but it felt special to us! We would definitely stay at the Westin Poinsett again and would heartily recommend it to anyone visiting downtown Greenville for pleasure or business!

My wife and I stayed at the Westin for a wedding one night in April. The hotel itself is beautiful and perfectly located for a traveler to downtown Greenville. There are many restaurants, bars, and even the Peace Center for the performing arts, a baseball stadium and the Reedy River all within a few miles of the hotel. The staff was wonderful and went out of our way. The front desk manager, a young man named Jeremy, was very hospitiable and checked on us throughout our stay, not just at check-in and check-out. I would advise anyone staying in the Greenville area to stay at this hotel.
