We stopped for one night in Greenville, SC to split up a weekend getaway. The hotel was nice for the price compared to recent hotels we've stayed in at the same price point. There was some discrepancy about their breakfast. We booked through a third party which advertised 'Free Breakfast'. However, when we checked in, we were informed that breakfast the next morning was $9.95 per person. We check the third party's website to be sure when we got to our room. We called the front desk, politely informed them, and asked if they wanted to take care of it or if we should call the third party. They immediately sent free breakfast vouchers to our room. We took advantage of the nice but small indoor pool and hot tub. Overall enjoyable. If you're a night owl, this may not be the best place for you as all the area stores (including Walmart) were closed/closing when we ran out for a forgotten item between 10 & 11pm.

A cancelled flight and getting standed overnight on a Friday night is no fun, but this hotel came to my rescue and made the inconvenience far more tolerable - a distressed passenger rate of $69, courtesy airport transportation, and courtesy transportation to/from local restaurants and stores. Alfred, one of the drivers, was such a sweetheart. Would definitely stay again, distressed or not.

My family and I spent overnight at this motel traveling to Clemson. Overall, the experience was favorable. It is a good hotel, but not great. The hotel seemed to need updating as the decor was old appearing. The beds and pillows were comfortable. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel, so I cannot comment on this. Did spend about 20 minutes in the pool. There were tons of kids in the pool and subsequently in the hot tub. Did not stay because of the noise. The exercise room was small.

My husband and I recently stayed for two nights at this property, and while it appears like a decent place upon first glance, the rooms leave much to be desired. We only paid $39.00/night for our stay because we are able to secure a special rate with Marriott, but I can definitely say that had we paid a dime over that, or paid their "normal" guest rate, I would have been furious.

Upon walking into the lovely lobby, we were met with beautiful, updated decor, beautiful lighting, a nice sitting area, small restaurant, as well as a business center and conference rooms. And then, we got to our room. To say that it was completely underwhelming and disappointing would be an understatement.

Here is a summary of what we encountered during our stay:

THE LOCATION:
This is really, in my opinion, one of the ONLY good things about this property. The hotel is conveniently located immediately off the freeway, within close proximity to both the Greenville airport, as well as downtown Greenville. There is also a variety of restaurants nearby, as well as conveniences such as drug stores and coffee shops.

THE ROOMS:
In summation, they are outright dirty, outdated, and poorly maintained. I am unsure as to whether or not this place has undergone a renovation in recent history, but if it had, it looks like they tried to put a band-aid on a bullet wound. The rooms are incredibly dark and dingy-feeling, with very poor lighting throughout. The lighting that they do have is the awful, fluorescent kind in all of the fixtures, so forget about trying to shave, or do your hair or makeup. In addition, we inspected the sheets, pillows, and towels in the room, and all of them had hair on them from previous guests. GROSS. The sheets and pillowcases were not crisp at all, and were so wrinkled that they appeared to have sat in the drier for days - not what I expect while staying at ANY hotel, be it a Motel 6 OR Marriott for that matter. In addition the mini coffee maker in the bathroom area had a layer of dust on it that was so thick, it looked like it hadn't been cleaned in months. The towel bar had at one point been ripped out of the wall, and it appeared that the maintenance man may have been intoxicated when he re-installed it, as there were exposed holes in the walls, as well as patches of wallpaper that were peeling off around the repair. The air vent in the shower was so dusty and dirty, it looked worse than a lint trap in a drier. Additionally, the beds were very hard and not comfortable at all, and appeared dirty, as I mentioned.

THE AMENITIES:
There is a pool and hot tub apparently, but we did not use it, and probably wouldn't have even if we would have brought our bathing suits for fear of what might be growing in the water, if the pool is as poorly maintained and dirty as the rooms are. There are standard conference rooms at this property, as well as a business center. Internet is available. There is also a small restaurant area near the front desk, which serves breakfast - we did not eat there. The in-room amenities are on the meager-end of basic, and the shampoo and conditioner allotment is hardly big enough to wash a baby's head, much less that of an adult. One small plus, is that there was a refrigerator in the room.

THE SERVICE:
It's clear at this property, that there is much to be desired in the housekeeping and maintenance areas. It's a shame that the rooms were not as nice as the front desk staff was.

In summation, skip this property altogether. Paying $39.00 or $139.00/night for this kind of inattention to detail and outright uncleanliness is too much.

Dear ColleenBills,
I am sorry that your stay with us did not turn out as expected. I apologize for not having the room with two queen beds available and feel that this problem led to the additional concerns you uncovered over the course of your stay with us. Being a Marriott associate, traveling on the associate rate, I'm sure that you understand the challenges of being overbooked in certain room types and appreciate you understanding that we had to provide our loyal Marriott Rewards members and regular paying guests with their requests before honoring associate requests. I would like to again offer my sincere apologies and hope that you will give us another chance when your travels bring you back to Greenville.

We stayed at this Courtyard Marriott in February 2013 and I sent an e-mail to the hotel chain regarding their good customer service. The contents of the e-mail are written below.

We just stayed one night at your Marriott Courtyard Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Hotel. As our arrival date was Valentine’s Day, I had called and spoken to Wrenn prior to our arrival – so that she would be expecting the flowers that I was having delivered for my wife. She arranged to have our room assigned and to have the flowers placed in our room. The staff took care of my request very well. The staff here was very friendly and accommodating throughout our short stay -- thank you. The lady in charge of your dining room (I believe her name is Terry) at this location did a fine job. She constantly went around the room asking the customers if everything was OK. She was very pleasant. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. We had stayed here before. This hotel is very close to where our two sons live and we plan to stay here again in the future. Marc Smith

Excellent hotel. From the way we were greeted at the reception all the way to the breakfast next morning. Very friendly and helpful personnel, clean rooms and a cozy bar/restaurant. Even though they were busy with the Duke basketball team and families, they went out of their way to accommodate Marriott Elite members. Highly recommended and only 3 minutes from the terminal.

We booked this hotel at the last minute while visiting our son. We really liked it. The pool area (our grandson stayed with us) was clean and and the workout area was super clean. The 2 days we were there we always saw people consistently cleaning the entire 1st floor. Very impressed. Staff was super friendly too. We will definitely be back.

We are delighted that you had a great stay with us during your recent visit. We are one of only a handfull of hotels in Greenville that have an indoor pool. I am glad that you and the grandchildren were able to enjoy it. We hope that your future travel plans bring you back to Greenville and to the Courtyard by Marriott!
