Description: The type of cuisine varies from week to week, but mostly it's comprised of Napa/Sonoma Valley California type of food. This restaurant might want to remain unlisted on TripAdvisor, but I thought it merited singing their praises. The food is fabulous, gourmet style, James Beard would be proud. This is a place you go when you want to enjoy a glass of wine, learn about the wine and actually taste food, not have bland gargantuan size meals. It can be pricey if you go for dinner, but the inexpensive way to go is to go on a Saturday, eat from the lunch menu or go early on a Friday eat in the bar area and enjoy food off the menu. There is also relaxing outdoor seating which is a wonderful place to eat and meet after work. I highly recommend looking into this restaurant.

“Quiet, charming, amazing food and wine.”
Reviewed November 14, 2011

Chef Liz has been a fixture in local cuisine for the last decade. Her food does not disappoint. This restaurant is connected to a wine shop with an amazingly diverse selection. Here is the deal: they let you buy a bottle from the shop and have it for dinner with a corkage fee. Compare that to the usual double or tripling of the price of a bottle. This plus the amazing food in a gorgeous setting promises you an enchanting evening. And it is just a block off Main Street.

“elegant dining with exceptionlly reasonable wine prices”
Reviewed October 5, 2011

Northampton is a wine bar, wine shop and excellent restaurant all under one roof. The beauty of this establishment is that you can choose a bottle of wine at standard retail price and then pay only a $10 corkage fee at supper. This is a bargain compared to the 225 to 300+% markup usually assessed at other restaurants. The food is excellently prepared and contains the freshest ingredients available. The hot chili seafood appetizer is a popular favorite. Their steaks are the second best, if not the best in Greenville. Salads are a generous helping of field green often with added nuts and splendid goat cheese. Soups are wonderfully crafted and reflect the seasons. All desserts are made in house. The bar food menu usually has cheese plates and lamb or bison burgers which may also be served in the restaurant section. I can honestly say I have never had a poor meal there. My favorites dishes are the lamb shank, Scottish salmon, or the filet mignon. Prices are a bit dear on the entrees, but considering you are getting a relative bargain on the wine you will get a splendid meal at a reasonable price. Service is impeccable. I have seen them ironing the tablecloths before the people arrive. I strongly doubt you will be disappointed with this hidden gem.

“Consistently Outstanding”
Reviewed July 28, 2011

When we moved to the upstate 10 years ago we searched for restaurants with great food and wine, and we discovered Northampton Wine Cafe. We are not frequent patrons, but each visit reinforces our palates' expectations. One of our guests declared, "That's the best steak I ever had!" On our most recent visit we shared the delightful Somerdale Salad so we would have room for dessert. However, half way through my wife's scallops and my crab cakes we agreed that we would have to bring our cheesecake home to extend our evening's enjoyment. Our waiter was top notch and timed the additions to our wine glasses at just the right moment.
Always a pleasure to return.
